Question about Bernina Activa 130

Bobbin Carriage clanking noise, yet the machine sews fine??

Bernina 130 Sewing Machine

While sewing, the needle broke off. I got both pieces of the needle so nothing is stuck in it. Then the bobbin carriage started making clanking noises. I took the bobbin case apart. Put back the hook and race and it still makes noise. It sews fine and the tension and everything is beautiful. But the noise is coming from the bobbin carriage (not the motor) and I don't know why. It's driving me nuts. HELP

If your bobbin area is making a noise, then do NOT sew with the machine until a reputable technician looks at it. You may have thrown something just a little off line - not enough to affect sewing NOW, but it could easily cause troubles down the line.

I suggest you call ahead and talk directly to the repair person - not to the sales person. Ask if you can bring in the machine while he/she is in the shop so they can listen while you run it.

You aren't trying to cheat the store out of the repair charge, just ensuring that the problem is diagnosed correctly.

You paid lots of money for this machine - it deserves good care.

Clanking noise & won't sew

Are you sure you put the correct type of needle in? Normally, if you have any problem, cleaning and oiling will fix it. It sounds like you either didn't tighten the needle screw or you put the wrong type of needle in.

Thread jams starting with 1st stitch on Bernina 160

since a needle broke, & a new needle was put in, was the needle inserted correctly, normally flat side to the back of the machine, & pushed all the way into the needle holder
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case.
if none of these suggestions help, then it's possible that when the needle broke it could have caused the machine to jump time & would have to be checked at a sewing machine shop

My bobbin case jumps out while I am sewing on my bernina 1008.

it sounds like the bobbin case needs to be replaced, have you cleaned under the needle plate & bobbin area for lint & loose threads
I also would suggest to take the machine to a different sewing machine repair shop.

My sewing machine won't sew

have you checked the needle to see if it's damaged,,if not sure replace the needle--flat side to the back side of the machine--all the way up into the needle holder
is it possible that you wound a bobbin & the bobbin winder spindle was not returned to the left position

I used the embroidery bobbin sewing and now it's not functioning

I do not believe the bobbin thread is the reason for the problem.

Refer to your manual for maintenance, especially cleaning the bobbin area.

When you replace the bobbin case be sure the needle is in it's highest position and this will also set the shuttle in position to properly accept the case.

If the problem continues, then machine will need to go into the shop. If the timing needs to be adjusted, this is best done by a Bernina tech.

I broke a needle sewing some fleece that was too thick. I got all the pieces of the needle. Now it won't pick up the bobbin thread. Is there something else I can do or do I take it in?

I called the Bernina dealer and they said the timing was probably off and needed to brought in. 4-5 day turn around and about $70. That's if it doesn't need parts. The dogs don't get new halloween costumes this year. I don't have 4-5 days to wait.

Machine problem

There are so many reasons due to which the thread is not picking up from the bobbin like:

The upper thread could be tangled. Remove the thread completely from the machine. The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool. Re-thread the machine. Remove the bobbin and make sure the bobbin is threaded properly in the shuttle race. Remove any loose threads or lint in the shuttle race.

You could be holding the needle thread too tight. Hold the thread lightly to keep the end from going down into the shuttle.
The needle could be threaded incorrectly. Thread the needle eye from the front to the back.
The needle could be bent or improperly inserted. Install a new needle with the flat side of the needle facing the back.

Do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Bobbin thread not picking up

Glad you managed to fix it yourself, in addition to the 250kms I would guess the cost would have been a lot.
