Re: cannot recover w/disk

Could be your optical drive. I was having a similar problem with the same laptop (ntldr missing on startup). Tried swapping out the hard drive and memory but system would not boot OS disk. Swapped an optical drive from another laptop and found this corrected the problem. The original optical drive would light up and spin but failed to load any disk. I'd recommend trying this. The DVD drive is easy enough to replace if you've done it before.

Windows XP Repairing

XP is a windows based operating system. XP is client OS which file format is Fat32 and NTFS. Some time for user fault, unauthorised operation, improper shutdown, viruses or any other cause may corrupt this file system and it may crash your windows also. Formatting and reloading of windows can solve your problem easily. But maybe there formatting is not possible for important data or for product key. So there repair of OS is only way to recover.

I have facing almost the same problem once. There customer have a confidential file in his system's desktop. Desktop belongs in C: drive where the OS resides. First I tried to recover the data but nothing is possible there. Then I started to repair the Widows. I insert the XP CD in DVD-Rom drive boot from it. Start the windows setup after loading files it ask for a repair (R key) I have ignore it by pressing Enter then the license agreement screen appeared. Then the OS instruct to press F8 to agree with the license and continue setup. After pressing F8 it will find the previous version of OS, if setup found any previous version then it will give you option to repair the OS again. But that day I don't get this option. It shows total disk space of C: drive have remain free space. So that there was not any file to recover the OS.

Then I go to boot the system again but formatting is not possible so after loading files at the first while the first repairing option appeared I have accept this repairing option. This option is from dos repairing option. After pressing "R" while appear the dos screen. Then press Enter to continue. Then I run the command "chkdsk" in C: drive to check the disk. After complete the disk checking and fixing the error I reboot the system again. After that I have Boot the system and after completing the whole process I choose the second repairing option. Then I got the previous version of OS and start to repair the previous OS. It now just loads the file and get started XP after booting. I got success to repair the OS and recover the data.
So it is a secure and easy process of recovery.

My Gateway file c0000218 registry failure the registry cannot load the hive /SystemRoot/System/32/Config/System or its log or alternate is. It is corrupt, absent or, not writable.

it sounds like you have a bad sector on the part of the hard drive containing this file. you need to let chkdsk complete the scan as it may be able to recover the corrupt file and isolate the bad sector so its not used again.
if this works backup the system as your hard drive may be failing.

Disk read error

it is entirely possible that the boot sector is damaged. if this is the case you need to boot with the cd that came with the machine, or a recovery cd you've made, and load the recovery environment. once their load the command prompt. it should just be a button in vista or 7 and it will automatically load in xp. once loaded type "chkdsk c: /r" no quotes. let it run, this will check for bad sectors and should fix the issue. try and reboot, and let me know what happens. if you don't have the recovery cd's or installation media you can download msdart, which has the recovery console built in. i went ahead and uploaded msdart, download the version you think you need.

How do i reset acer aspire 5335 to factory setting?

Assuming the system partition has not been corrupted, do the following:

  1. Boot the machine
  2. While booting up, press and hold at the same time the ALT and F10 keys
This should take you to a system recovery screen with the option to reset to factory restore. Once completed, use System Tools to create a set of Recovery disks so you don't have to lose all of your files and programs should you need to recover again in the future.

***STOP:0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x8A811CA0,

Could be a number of problems, including but not limited to...

1) NTFS file structure is corrupt
2) MBR has been compromised (corrupt)
3) ATA/SATA drivers are corrupt
4) Hard drive is on the way out

Boot your computer using the OS install disk, and run CHKDSK /f from within the recovery console. CHKDSK /p will repair a corrupted NTFS file system (if that's the problem).

If CHKDSK options don't fix the problem, or if the drive is not recognized by your OS, it may be your MBR (Master Boot Record). Use the command fixmbr from within recovery console, then reboot.

MBR may be data destructive, so it's best to use CHKDSK options first. Also, if you are able to get the system to boot up, you'll want to save/recover any data on the hard drive, then run thorough diagnostics on the drive to make sure it's not on the way out (contact Dell for further information regarding this).

Hope this helps!

Dell Inspiron 8200 won't continue start up

This stop error means that your ntfs file system is corrupt (damage in the file system, bad hard drive data, corrupt SCSI or IDE drivers or a corrupt ntfs.sys file).

How do resovle the problem.
There are two ways,

1, If you still can access Windows, try to disable any backup programs, virus scanning programs or disk defragmenter tools. Try also to run a hardware diagnostics tool to detect any errors your hard drive might have. And run chkdsk /r to detect and repair any file system structural damage.

2, If you are unable to load Windows. Then you should try to access your ntfs partitions by making a ntfs boot disk with NTFS4DOS (freeware). You can download it from You will need a floppy disk.

After you load the bootable floppy disk onto your damaged system, select either option one (1) or option three (3). If you selected option one (1), type chkdsk /r at the command prompt, and your problem should go away after the disk has been repaired.

Note! Unfortunately there is a chance that your partition is corrupt beyond repair and all of your data is lost. In that case, you need to reformat the partition to be able to use it again.

Have stop error 0x00000024 Did a system scan as directed by dell but everything passed. What else could be wrong? I have 10 gig of iTunes & important files not backed up :( How do fix this without...

This is a nasty error code and can be a pain to fix and recover your data. You get this error when your hard drive have bad sectors and/or you are missing NTFS boot files.

Try this for recovery and repair:

If you have the XP cd, insert it in your pc, boot up and go to the Console Recovery sections. Once in, type this at the command line:

chkdsk c: /p /r

This will check your hard drive and correct bad sectors AND recover any readable information from the bad sectors.

If you don't have the XP disk, you will need to take the hard drive out, connect it to another pc (desktop) as a second drive and run the check disk command.

Good luck,

Blue screen error 0x00000024 dont have recovery disk

This Stop message, also known as Stop 0x24, indicates that a problem occurred within Ntfs.sys (the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives).

Resolving the ProblemDisk Corruption. Corruption in the NTFS file system or bad blocks (sectors) on the hard disk can induce this error. Corrupted SCSI and EIDE drivers can also adversely affect the systems ability to read and write to disk, thus causing the error.
Check Event Viewer for error messages from SCSI and FASTFAT (System Log) or Autochk (Application Log) that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. Try disabling any virus scanners, backup programs, or disk defragmenter tools that continually monitor the system. You also need to run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer. Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and resolve any file system structural corruption. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If you cannot start the system due to the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r.
