I would run disk utility (found under applications and the utilities) this will give you an indication of the write status and will allow you to verify and repair the disk if necessary

Hello my name karen and i have a stupid question how do i copy and paste my files from my home computer or lap top files to my portable iomega hard drive

Very simple! These instructions are for PC, if you have a Mac just say so
  • When you have the hard drive plugged in, it will show up in the "My Computer" folder. Open the folder that appears. That is where you will put the files.
  • Next, make a new window and find the files you want to copy.
  • Right click a file, choose "Copy"
  • Go to the Hard Drive window, right click the empty space, and choose "paste"
  • Do that for each file until all of them have been copied
  • If there are a lot of files, choose the fist one on the list, scroll to the bottom, hold the Shift button, and click on the last file. That will choose all of them. repeat the right click method above.
  • Please reply if you have any more questions. Good luck! (Please give a thumbs up, I am doing this for a summer job!)

Am I able to password protect the 34974 Iomega external hard drive? I am not interested in encrypting, just having a password so it cannot be seen by others

Plug your Iomega hard drive into the USB port on your computer. Click the "Start" button and choose the "My Computer" icon. Double-click on your Iomega hard drive's icon. Right-click in a blank space on the window and choose the "New Folder" option from the menu that appears. Highlight and drag all of your data into the new folder that you created. Right-click the new folder and select the "Properties" tab. Navigate to the "Sharing" tab and check the small box next to "Make This Folder Private." Click the "Apply" button and then choose "OK." Use your Windows login password to access the folder and the contents. Hope this helps

Cannot copy files to Iomega 500 GB external hard drive.

It depends on how you formatted the the drive.
If it was formatted FAT it will work on both Mac and PC.
If you formatted to HFS+ (the native mac format) then it will only work on a mac.
