Unfortunately I can't help you with the Minolta X-700 other than to give generalisations based on other models.
Your problem needs specific advice from an expert on the X-700.
Now that you've posted details of the model there's a fair chance of getting a good answer from someone else, if you don't get an answer then try posting the question again but including the make and model in the question.
Sorry that I've not been able to offer you a fix for this but hope that you'll appreciate that even after thirty years of fiddling about with cameras there are still many models which I've yet to encounter.
In the meantime you may be able to find out more for yourself via the following web address which offers a free downloadable user manual for the X-700.

I am in doubdt whether to buy or not the following: A Canon EOS Rebel K2 SLR with Canon 28-90 EF for $75.00 and a Canon 75-300 EF f/4-5.6 for $80.00; a total of $155.00 Some people warned me tha I should wait until I can get more money and buy a Digtal SLR. I had some basic knowledge about photography and I am planning to take some photography course by mail, dvd or by e-mail. Please give your advice about the Canon camera and lenses and the photography course I should take. Thank you very much.
