Mine has the same problem, and its the internal web cam. I got a second web cam and it won't show its picture, and its not a dirty usb port. I've tried reinstalling drivers on both the webcams and still nothing.

The web cam donot work

Most HP laptops come equipped with a built-in webcam. However, many casual users have difficulty accessing the webcam. Whether, you have deleted the HP Webcam icon from your Desktop, or you are a first time user, there is an easy way of accessing the Webcam. The only requirement is that you have the HP QuickPlay software and latest driver for the webcam installed on your computer.

Download the latest driver for the Webcam:

1. Go to the HP Support and Drivers website for the most update-to-date HP Drivers. Enter laptop's model number, which can be found on the front of the laptop screen as well as the product sticker on the bottom. Choose the exact model from the list that shows up. Then select your operating system. Download the webcam driver from the list of available driver and software programs. Install the driver and reboot the computer at the end of the installation process.

2. Launch the HP QuickPlay application. Almost all HP laptops have the program pre-installed, but if for some reason you don't have the program, it can be downloaded from the HP website (link provided in Resources section).

3. Click on the "Music Videos Pictures" icon in HP Quickplay. HP Webcam will be available among the list of devices. Click on the HP Webcam button to turn it on(you will see a light next to webcam lens and an image will show up on the screen).

4. Double-click the active webcam image to enlarge it to full-screen.

5. Scroll down to the lower left corner of the screen and click on the "Snapshot Image" icon to take a picture. Click the "Record" icon to record a video.

6. Click the "Info/More Settings" icon denoted with a lowercase "i" to change settings such as the aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9), or recording quality.

7. Use adequate lighting for the webcam considering its limited image quality and low light capabilities.

8. Now that you have installed the driver for the webcam, most 3rd party programs should also be able to detect and access the webcam. It can even be used it with messenger applications for video chatting/conferencing.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

Hi, Quick play would not work in Windows 7. When upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, some media programs are no longer compatible and will not be found in your Start menu. HP provides replacement programs for QuickPlay and other media programs with Windows 7 MediaSmart software. Plz go to below link and you will get all appropriate software?s of HP Mediasmart. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01929858&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN In this link you need to download the drivers used in HP mediasmart webcam and all other stuffs. If you find this helpful then Plz vote for me..Dreamkam

My HP Pavilion Entertainment webcam issues

First uninstall the drivers and then download the latest bios update for your notebook from hp.com and then restart the computer.... then install the latest updated drivers for webcam from hp.com and check this will surely work.
If not then check for quickplay driver update too.
Another thing open task manager and then go to processes and check wethere you can find the webcam running or not if yes then right click and end the task , also check for the programs that might use webcam like if you have installed yahoo or skype messenger end the program task too.

Hello i have a hp pavilion tx2000 but my webcam doesnt work what can i do about it

Try reloading your webcam drivers. If you enter your device manager, look for imageing devices, if it is being seen by the unit, you may have a software problem.
Try, quickplay and see if you show it their.

HP webcam dv6000 is not working properly

Weird but worked for me for yahoo and messenger but not quickplay. If you have the Chicony web camera, follow these steps to download Acer webcam drivers.

1. Download Acer 5210 Chicony Webcam drivers.

2. Run the setup file.

3. Follow installer prompts then RESTART PC.

4. Ignore the 'installing drivers' popup.

5. Open up the Control Panel.

6. Open up the Device Manager.

7. Select webcam from 'Imaging Devices'.

8. Right click on webcam and select 'Update'.

9. Select 'Browse computer for driver'.

10. Choose 'Let me pick from list of devices on PC'.

11. Uncheck 'Show compatible hardware' checkbox.

12. Scroll down to Chicony manufacturer.

13. Choose the 'Acer Crystal Eye Webcam'.

14. Install even if a question pops up.

YOU ARE DONE AND ENJOY YOUR CHATTING WITH ACER CYRSTAL EYE WEBCAM.

Thanks to DylanBennett for uncovering this odd fix for the HP webcam
