Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router (DSLSWRT54G)
I have a DSL modem with Cavalier. I wanted to connect my other desktop to this service, so I purchased this router. I followed the CD to the letter (I'm running Wiindows XP, SP2) on installation and connection. When I came to the part where they searched for the router, it said there was no router detected on the system. I kept retrying, but to no avail. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
I've run into this dozens of times. With DSL, keep in mind the software on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer that has the software installed (verizon, etc) will be able to connect.
If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.

So if I understand you, you have an ethernet cable running from your DSL modem to the Internet port on the back of the Linksys router and then an ethernet cable connecting one of your computers to one of the numbered ports on the router. Is that correct?
If the above is correct, using the computer that is hooked to the router via the cable, open Internet Explorer and type the following in the Address Bar:
The Username should be left blank and the default password is "admin" with no quotes.
See what happens when you try this and let me know. This may take a few steps to get going.
