Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

Status lights flash, but no bodys home!

Hi, I have a T40 2374 laptop that just refuses to boot.
All the status led's flash except for the HDD led, it won't even get to the bios. I've tried numerous fix's on numerous sites to no avail, from removing all the FRU's to totally stripping it down to the mobo.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

I've tried that, and have just tried again....still flashing 5 out of the 6 LED's. I've also checked the voltage of the internal battery which seems ok, but on your advice I will replace it tomorrow.

Thankyou for responding so quickly and will let you know how it goes.

I got a new internal battery and still no change, 5 out of 6 lights still flashing, interestingly the non flasher is the HDD. Which still doesn't answer why I can't boot up to the BIOS screen?

    Sorry reilingr no answers yet!

I have a T40 with the same problem. All of the lights flash, but the computer just won't fire up. what could it be? a short? i've tried it stirpped down, and nothing seems to change.

I also have a T40 and the failure to boot has just happened (2374 model). Five out of the 6 lights flash continuously. Have tried with battery both in and out. And hard drive removed, also CD drive removed, and all combinations of above. Regardless, the lights flash as soon as you press the on button and nothing else happens, no beeps, no bios, nothing. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thank you, Roy.

Do you get anything on the screen at boot? When you removed the HDD did you test it? It powers up, but will not boot correct? Fan spins, LED's Blink? Battery charges? Can you get to BIOS or Boot Menu? Can you do a Restore/Recovery? If you insert a repair disk into the DVD/CD rom drive does it respond? Take a look at HP support page:

Hi, I m havin Medion Akoya md 97860 laptop It shows blank screen and ni response, only led lights turns on and while starts feel like accessing ram and fan run but system can't be able to start.

Does the HDD LED blink? when you reboot do you get anything on the screen at boot? Can you do a system restore/recovery? Reseat the Memory Mods and the HDD. Maybe the HDD is gone or the Memory? The MBR is corrupt? Hard to say without troubleshooting issues.

Unable to boot internal devices? bug?

Did you go into the bios settings and check the status of the hard drive? it would seem that is where the problem lies.

Blank screen

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

I have a flashing orange light on the top right of my computer - I have ran virus scans and the light still flashes

The LED is your system battery status LED. If you boot to the BIOS, go to battery status, you likely be informed the battery needs to be replaced.

Acer Aspire LED status lights won't work

Either you have a defective cable now or the LED board that the lights are on are bad.

You can try another cable exactly like the one that came with your Acer or call acer and get the part number for the LED board. It will cost you some money but it shouldn't be much, less then $100 for sure.

Ask them for a cable as well to make sure your getting the right one as well that way you take care of both ends.

Here is the number for Acer Support, you can explain to them the problem and tell them you need the ribbon cable and the led board and what would the cost be to purchase them. The number is:

New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.
