Question about JVC RX-D301S Receiver

1 Answer

Setup configuration's what I've got and what I would like to do... DELL W4200 plasma tv, jvc rx-d301s receiver, Scientific America 8300 HCD cable box, and a Panasonic DMR-EZ17 DVD recorder.  I also have a vcr I would like to hook up. I have the dvd cabled to the cable box so I can record from any channel on cable.  I have it set that audio goes through the receiver and video directly to the tv. I noticed on the JVC it has play and record for both video and audio plugs on dvr and vcr.  If I hook up all of my components to the receiver and then video monitor to the tv, will I still be able to record to and from the dvr and the vcr (depending on my need)? What are the pro's and con's of either setup.

Here is the wiring block pdf and jacks descriptions as requested. There are 4 units in the wireblock diagram.
Again, my main goal is to be able to record to the dvd-recorder from the cable box and the vcr, as needed. I can do so now, but the cable box goes through the dvd recorder then the plasma tv and the vcr is directly connected to the front jacks on the dvd recorder.
I have not yet tried, I am in need of a couple of cables which I plan on getting tomorrow. if it is possible, I believe I can work it out, but a second brain is always helpful.
Thanks for any help you can give on this issue.

I've had my Panasonic dmr ez17 DVD recorder hooked up for years. I have audio & video in the ez17 from the comcast cable box and out to the TV. I have been able to record from the cable DVR with no trouble until today. Suddenly, I get the video from the cable box fine, but no audio. I've checked the connections and they are all fine. I've tried a different audio cable but that didn't help. I tried to use the IN2 input instead of IN1, no help there either. Any suggestions?

I would like to hook up my components without having to turn on the receiver to watch tv from DVR or Cable if possible. I have Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD Cable DVR w/HDMI out, Samsung TV w/HDMI ,...

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.
