In general, you will have to play with the functions as each camera and indoor lighting situation is different. Sometimes, cameras have some nice presets (like candlelight) and I have had some success with presets.
Otherwise, depending on the indoor circumstances you will need to play with ISO - 800 or 1600 is typical for low light settings. However, I have heard that graininess appears with your camera at around 1600. It is a problem with your model of camera.
You can also try playing with the white balance settings as well.
Some cameras display a grainy picture in low light. Do you have the camera set to the highest number of megapixels and fine image or do you have it set to a lower resolution to get more pictures on the card?
The first piece of advice I can give you is to use a stable support, such as a tripod.
Obviously, the main problem with night photography is the lack of light. There are several things you can do to combat the situation.
One is to add light. The camera's built-in flash can add some, though not a whole lot, as long as the subject is not too far away. You'll have problems if the subjects are not all the same distance away. In a group picture you'll get the nearer people blown out while the farther people disappear into the shadows.
You can raise the ISO, but this will increase the digital noise, making the pics look "grainy."
This leaves a slower shutter speed. This makes a problem of motion, both of the subject and of the camera. There's not much you can do about the subject motion (except possibly panning) except to choose you shooting spot so that the motion is either toward or away from you instead of across your line of sight. The best way of combating camera motion gets us back to the first thing I said.
First go to the SETUP menu and make sure that the PLAYBACK VOLUME setting is set to a value greater than 0. Try increasing the shutter speed of any photos as CCD's will notoriously produce grainy images on slow shutter speeds. Grainy videos will indicate poor light, camera shake during filming or moving too quickly so the autofocus cannot function correctly, or using too low a resolution and will be especially noticeable at 640 x 480 when viewed on a large high resolution screen. If all the above make no difference then you may need to get the camera serviced.
The camera has a "motion detector". And is generally for taking pictures automatically whenever a "subject", such as wild game, come within the detector.
That flash is for taking pictures of subjects less than 12 ft away and not a darkened area beyond 12 ft.
If you are using it to automatically capture in the evening, then point the camera lower, like to the ground 12 ~ 20 feet away. It will shoot some nice, but somewhat grainy pictures!
If you are holding the camera to take pictures, it wasn't designed for that, but it will work for "close" shots.
Image stabilizer (IS) will help you stabilize your shaky hand when photographing static object in dim light environment. When photographing moving things such as humans, camera IS will not and cannot not freeze them unless you use high shutter speed. If your camera allows high ISO and manual shutter speed setting, experiment indoors with it. Just remember, high shutter speed freezes motion and IS can only steady your shaky hand for so long. Tripod can only steady your camera not the subject if the subject is a human being.
maybe you zoom in a lot and then it would be normal and if the pictures come out fine, i wouldn't worry about it but if the print pics come out grainy and blurry i would take it back if you have warranty
The TZ series is not known for good indoor pictures. T Z is short fot Travel Zoom. The is great for outdoor pictures and long distance shots.
Indoors, be sure you use flash and your subject is within 8 feet so flash light can reach them. Let the camera select the proper settings using the Intelligent ISO setting.. Or set it to Night slow shutter speed) while holding the camera, and subject very still for 3 seconds after shutter press, and with Image Stabilization on.
Also, don't forget if you are viewing the pics on your big screen PC, then the pics will always look worse than they will either on your Camera screen professionally printed pix fo 5x7, which will likely be fine to acceptable. If you get up to 9x10 printed sizes, then you will likely see what you would see on a large PC screen....not very good.
There is a chance you have a bad camera. If it is under warranty, take it to a panasonic repair center locally. I am afraid if you send it off to a depot, they may charge you while declaring nothing is wrong with it.
If you can adjust the ISO sensitivity to a lower number then the graininess will be reduced.
However, by reducing the ISO, you will need a slower shutter speed and a larger aperture. A tripod, table or other support may be necessary.
The "noise reduction" setting on the camera can also be adjusted a step up.
Taking pictures at full resolution and fine compression will also help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, at least try lowering the ISO, and using the flash brighter.
