If your problem is you cannot download the "console update", you need to lower your firewall. Heres what you do: Enter you IP address into the INTERNET ADDRESS BAR. If you do not know your IP adress go to your xbox dashboard, go to system settings. Then go to network settings. Go to edit settings and it will show your IP adress. Anyway, when you type that into the internet address bar, an interface will come up for your router. They're, lower the firewall settings and in customer service, add xbox live as accessible. Try again to connect to xbox live. This should work. Hope this info was helpul :D

Sorry wasnt very clear on the internet address bar. you need a computer or laptop or some device you can access the internet on. if this doesnt work by the way, its mcrosofts fault. Alot of peoples xbox live isnt working due to a fault in there updating system. That was a good while back and should be fine now. Another way to set up xbox live is to bring your hard drive to one of your friends xbox's (xbox lve accessible) and set up a gamertag there. Sometimes this works when you put it back in your own xbox. I see alot of people are hearing fan noises and getting errors, this is all microsofts fault in the design of the xbox. Apparently all 11.6 million xbox's sold by the end of June are faulty however not more than around 20-25% of them should break. Microsoft have fixed the problem in new xbox's since then and stated that anyone with the 3 red rings of death are entitiled to free repairs and shipping. They have estimated the cost of this crisis to reach about 1.15 Billion $. Now for more about the problem, typical power consumption of an Xbox Processor running one of the most power demanding games is 70W and in a worst case scenario 80W. In all of the Xbox processors built around 80% will never run more than 75W however the other 20% will, and when they do in systems with bad thermal-management solutions, they will run hotter than the maximum temperature, and eventually fail.

I'm just making up these numbers to make a point, but I think they're fairly accurate with the available facts ive read. So 80% of the systems will never fail because the processors never consume more power than the thermal-management solution can handle.

Of the other 20 percent, only some will break, the ones by radiators, in warms rooms, collectng more dust etc. Let's say that of this 20%, only half of the systems will actually fail.

So in this hypothetical situation, all Xbox 360s have a design flaw, but only 20% have a defect and only 10 percent will have a fault. The fault happens when the overheated processor begins malfunctioning. I don't know if these numbers are anything like the actual situation with the Xbox 360 crisis, but the problem ive outlined is right. So my advice to you when you get the red rings of death is to demand a free repair off microsoft. And good look with the xbox live too people. Enough Xbox talk for one night though (maybe a good few nights) happy Xboxing. Peace :)

My MTU has failed, too. I read up and apparently everyone's MTU fails at the same time when Microsoft takes down XBL to update it, fix it, etc. When they put XBL back up your MTU should work fine again. IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM! Blame the evil corporation of Microsoft who made you call your ISP for no reason. Down with the the Windows and Gates (Bill that is)!

SOURCE: ip address failed

If you are behind a router.. try hooking it up directly to your cable modem or DSL modem. If that fixes the problem then you need to open ports on the router to allow the connect to get routed to your xbox.

SOURCE: Mtu settings on xbox 360

if you have lynksis for a router you can go to on your address bar and for the password and username they both are admin after that go to MTU and change the size. for XBOX LIVE you need 1365 or greater. If it is already greater than 1365 you might want to switch it to manual and put it directly to 1365. Then save settings and you are done

Xbox wont connect to xbox live

This problem indicates that there is a error with your account. I suggest going to and seeing if you can log in there. From there you should be able to access accounts and billings. Make sure your account is up to date. If it is not then do so and test xboxlive connection once more.
This should help please post if it does not.

Connecting to xbox live failing

The xbox live board is down,so if you pass all tests except the xbox live one, this is the problem.I rang them and they said over 50% of users are having this problem. Its because so many people went on it over Christmas and the system got overloaded. They said they're working on it and it should be up and running in a week or two. ~~PS~~ I rang on the 12-1-08 so it should be up by the 20th,its not your fault, the servers down.
