Tascam 160 always read no disc

The reason it reads no disc, is because the Optical Pickup(laser) is worn out of specifications. If the pickup cannot read the TOC(table of contents) it thinks there is no disc in the drawer. Your will require a new pickup. If you require more assistance, or would like to inquire about repairing your Tascam(I used to be a factory service center), please visit my website at, and contact me there. Thank you.

Tascam CD-RW700 Not Working

Mine is doing the same thing. By pluging and unplugging the power back and forth sometimes I get it to read the disc and it stays on. If you get yours going then I suggest always leaving it on. It doesn't draw much. A temporary solution until you figure out how to fix it.

Tascam CDR-W5000 CD Recorder won't open the tray (drawer). Please help!

This could be a bad belt or a defective end sense switch. The parts are no longer available I am told for this unit by New Jersey Factory Service where the could be fixed. This is one of the older models.

Can i use any type of blank cd format i.e. MAXELL,TDK,SONY cd/cdr/cdrw. On a TASCAM CD-RW5000 or Do it just take the DIGITAL AUDIO/COMSUMER TYPE ?

What does the instruction manual say about what to use?
Personally I buy Taiyo Yuden and have never had a problem. In Radio we used a lot of CDRW900 units and they used them many times a day using standard data discs. Name brand discs like Maxell and the rest are there for profit- they don't make discs so they do not regulate the quality. Go to and read up on media quality and you will end up with what I use.

Cd will not eject. Keeps giving message "Now OPC" but will not do anything and will not eject cd either.

To remove a stuck CD from Tascam CC222 MKII

This solved the "Now OPC" problem

1. Unplug unit

2. Remove the top cover, (3 screws on each side and 3 on the back, lift cover).

3. Plug in unit.

4. Power on the unit to observe the drive spindle spinning clockwise, (1" disc on top of drive).

5. Turn off unit, do not unplug at this time.

6. Use a small screwdriver to prevent the drive spindle from spinning.

7. Power on the unit preventing the spin.

8. In approximately 10 seconds the display will read "Disc Error" and the CD tray will open.

9. Remove the screwdriver and the disc.

10. Turn off the unit and unplug.

11. Replace the cover.

12. Use a better quality disc.

CD player does not recognise some CDs. When placed in the drawer the deck displays "no disc" if another CD player is used the disc works fine

I have two of these Tascam CD-A500 players, and one more than the other has this problem of not reading some CDs that will play fine in other players. I'm starting to loose faith in this Tascam product. Anyway, seems the consensus is to open it up and check for dirty laser optics. If that doesn't fix the problem, then send it in for repair or scrap it and buy a different brand. I've not had this problem with any other brand CD player, but very suspicious that the same problem happens on BOTH of my Tascam CD-A500 units.

I keep getting Disc read errors! when I put a CD-R in my Tascam CC-222. I thought the problem was with the discs so I bought more ... Sony CD-R. Still the same problem. Help

Either the player doesn't except this format which many don't read burnt discs. If it plays factory made discs, than it doesn't except burnt formats. If it doesn't read any discs, than the laser eye may need to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab

Cd player reads disc error

maybe you need to change the optical eye now.
but first try to adjust the variable resistor/trimpot resistor.
try this options to your player.

if using a cd/vcd/dvd products, we only should play a cd/vcd/dvd dics without a bad scratches. the scratches are making the optical eye worn-out easily.
