Re: Unstable signal

Are you sure it says unusable signal instead of unstable signal.
This means that you have the wrong input in place in the tv. If you got the original remote with it there may be an input button. on it. Some RCA's use 00 for the video input. If your cable goes directly to the antenna connector on the back you should get all channels when you do auto search in the menu provided you have the right input programmed. If you are using a cable box the tv must be on channel 3 or 4. video input uses rca cables red white and yellow to the proper input on the tv but there again the input must be set correctly. Possibly in the menu do a search there. Hope this helps.

I have a problem that appears to be related only to my coaxial cable input. I periodically get static, white lines across the screen or a "no signal" error message. Pixilation does not occur. Initially it...

I think your problem is in the tuner, a metal box located near the antenna input. This tuner can be removed and serviced. Sometimes the tuner DC supply line is unstable due to a filter capacitor or zener diode generally rated 33V (most common) and should be the first step in troubleshooting process.

Cable input

I think the problem is in the tuner, a small metal box near the antenna input and can be removed and serviced. But first you should check the DC supply line to the tuner. The circuit has a big limiting resistor (15K/3W) and a 33V zener diode and a small filter electrolitic capacitor). The zener is prone to be leaky and unstable.

try to watch a movie that doesnt contain snowing...
If you mean white pixels for no reason on the screen while whatching the tv it can be caused by unstable power, or tv signal.
try to remove tv cable, then replug it so the picture will clear

No Color

How is everything cabled? Is this over the air or using composite cables (yellow/red/white). Sometimes this will happen when you plug  a component cable into a composite connection or vis versa. If it's over the air signal or cable tv, check and see if the on screen menu for the tv is also in B&W. If the menu is B&W, it could something else.

TV picture fades, then shuts off

There are some components in the scan amplifiers, and or the power supply area that have become unstable. This can happen with age and use. It is impossible to make an accurate assessment without actually troubleshooting the set.

You need an experienced TV service tech that is strong on troubleshooting, has the service manuals, and has the proper set-up to work on your set. I would recommend the factory service rather than an independent service tech unless you know for sure that the independent service tech can handle this type of repair.

Considering the age of the model of set that you have, I would be looking at replacing it rather than fixing it. Because of the age of the set the reliability will be decreased.

Shrinked picture of 29 inch television.

It is a pincushion problem. There is a bad cap and or a bad diode in the horzontal section.
