I have a hp dv2000 and I left it on one night and when I woke up the next morning it had shut off. When I turned it on it came up with a screen saying "We apologize for the inconvience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. Then it goes into a few different ways to start it. Such as Safe mode, starting normally or going back to the last known good configuration. I have tried all of these and it acts as though it will start windows but then goes back to the same screen. It doesn't sound like anything is running except for my cd/dvd drive clicks a little. Please help!

- I had left it on so I could check something before I had to leave for work the next morning. I leave early and didn't want to wait for it to boot up. Normally I turn it off or just close the laptop. It happened last Thursday night which was the 15th of October. That's about all I know.
Is there any reason why it was on all night? Was it updating? Installing software? Just left it on? Also, what day did this happen? As crazy as it sounds, it may have been an update that failed, and updates were just pushed last Tuesday from Microsoft. --Just an idea.
immediately run a hdd diagnostics thru F12 when you power up the laptop. if it has error codes then check if hdd is faulty. if no errors then try to repair the startup using the OS CD. if fails then this might end to a OS clean install.

Monitor goes black (no green, no to flashlight test) even while we are working at fast pace and laptop is stationary. Monitor stays on (power light on), tried both crt and lcd monitors; same behavior. Can wiggle mouse or reboot to regain visual. Also when moving the laptop, screen flashes, both monitors. Cannot test with laptop monitor, as employee needs larger screen to do work and this is intermittent -- can happen 15+ x day or go 3 days with no problem.
