Sounds like the hard drive has failed - you can try to replace it yourself, it's very simple. Usually one or two screws under a panel on the bottom of the notebook, then replace it with any decent hard drive you can buy at Best Buy. Then just reinstall the OS. While you are in there, check and make sure that the cable attached to the hard drive is fully attached, sometimes they can work loose and cause that error.
Detatch the hard drive from the computer and then re-attach. There will be a couple screws holding it in place and a picture on the bottom of the laptop to show you where it is. If this does not work, your CMOS (BIOS) battery is probably dead meaning your BIOS was reset. You will need to take it to a PC shop and have them replace the battery unless you are comfortable taking your laptop totally apart.
