I have a mac and just hooked up the webcam. The video works, but I can't get the microphone to work. I went into the system preferences and sound and it appears to recognize the microphone there, but I can't get it to recognize it when using skype

For mac/skype go to "preferences" under the skype tab & click on "video" --I couldn't get mine to work until I tried this & it works beautifully. Good luck.

See section A. Skype in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have their computer setup properly.

Web Camera's have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ )
set it up as follows:
Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera, if Installed Properly, it will come up and show a video picture.
Then, on the bottom of the page click save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and hear you.

B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.HTML )
set it up as follows:
Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
Next "Calling and Devices" on the right, set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card or headphones/mike.
Next go to the Test Audio section below where you just setup the microphone & speaker and (written in blue) click on "Open the call setup assistant"
and the "Yahoo Call Setup Assistant" window will open to the left and follow the the instructions. Click on FINISH and the audio will be setup.
Next go to "Webcam" and click in the circle "Allways allow the following people to view my webcam.
Next Click on "Super Webcam" snd in the circle click "Start Super Webcam mode automatically".
Then click OK and it should work.

C. Windows Live Messenger:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d78f2ff1-79ea-4066-8ba0-ddbed94864fc&displaylang=en
After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on " "Show Menus." And then click on "Show the Menu Bar".
Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on " "Action."
Go to "TOOLS" and click "Audio and Video Setting" and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

D. AIM (AOL) Messenger:
http://dashboard.aim.com/aim
On the VIM sign-in window, click on Edit.
Then click on Settings Enhanced IM.
Next click on Enhanced IM.
Then click on Audio Video.
The Audio and Video portion has drop downs so you can select the proper audio card and video camera installed in you computer.
The Audi Video drop downs are
Microphone
Speaker
Camera
The audio and camera should function now.
Additional information to use with VIM settings.
Adjust Your Audio and Video Settings:
In order to adjust your audio and video settings, please follow the steps given below:
1. Click the Audio and Video Settings button directly below the My Buddy or My Camera window. If you are currently
Participating in an AOL Live Video IM session, a message will display: You must disconnect the current AOL Live Video IM
conversation before running setup. Would you like to disconnect now? Click the Yes button.
2. The Audio and Video Tuning Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers and microphone are working
Properly. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Notes:
The first time you use AOL Live Video IM, a message will display: Would you like to first check your audio and video settings? Click the Yes button.
The Audio and Video Tuning Wizard will appear to help you verify that your camera, speakers and microphone are working properly.
Follow the on-screen prompts.
images in AOL Live Video IM may appear reversed, or as a mirror image (text may appear backwards) when you look at your own camera feed or at the
Picture-in-picture (PIP) display.
After making the settings your ready for a chat and video talk with your Family and Friends. Hope this helps. Bud

Webcam Audio Getting sound to broadcast with streaming video using a webcam requires a few components to work in unison. Because most webcams do not have a microphone built in, you will need to buy a microphone for your computer or locate your microphone input if you have one built in (some laptops have these). The audio and video are two separate functions and must be diagnosed as such. b> Webcam Software b> If you have a webcam set up correctly and you are streaming video, then you are already halfway there. This details only how to make the sound work, so please refer to an article related to webcam video if you do not have that working already. The webcam audio and video both communicate with your computer via your webcam's software application. Due to this, you will find that there are settings specific to your webcam software for sound. Because there are various software applications that can act as an interface for your webcam, you will want to do a product-specific search on the Internet for your application's settings. Most often you will find the settings for sounds under Tools or Settings, then choosing Options or Preferences. Regardless of the application that you are using to broadcast your webcam video, you will need to ensure that your microphone is plugged into the "Microphone In" jack on your computer or laptop. The microphone input jack is commonly colored pink. b> Microphone Connection b> With your microphone plugged into the "Microphone In" audio jack, test the audio inside your webcam's software application. Most webcam applications allow you test your microphone by reading a sentence and watching a graph move as you speak. If you see this happening, then you have correctly hooked up your microphone. If you have a Windows PC you should also see if your computer recognizes your microphone by clicking on "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Sounds and Audio Devices." Under the "Audio" tab you will find a section for "Sound Recording." From there you can select or change your "Default Device." b> Hardware Troubleshooting b> In the event that your microphone is not recognized by your computer, continue hardware troubleshooting by contacting your computer's support staff. With a properly connected microphone and some minor adjustments in your webcam's software application, you should be broadcasting audio with your video in no time. Hope this helps.

The nexxtech hd portal 720p installation disk comes up on my mac desktop but when i click on it, it goes in to a file and i can't seem to instal anything everything either has no default application...

I have the same unit and it works fine on my Mac Mini. All the stuff on the disk is for PCs, not Macs. You don't need to install any drivers for this webcam when using it with a Mac. Just plug it in and it will work. If you are using it on Skype, for example, you have to select "preferences" / "sound" and then change the "input" to USB. That will make the microphone work. You can adjust the mic input volume in your Mac "System Preferences" / "Sound." This is one of the few cameras out there with a mic that works through the USB, so don't give up on it too easily!
I get a very slow frame rate with this camera, but I've had the same problem with every other webcam I've plugged in!! Otherwise the quality is fine. If anyone knows why my frame rate is so slow, I would appreciate your ideas!

On my i mac i can talk on skype thru my headphones but it wont let me talk without them, so was wondering what went wrong? It was working before..

holding option while clicking on the volume icon (speaker) will bring up a small menu, make sure the 'input device' is the internal microphone.
if that doesn't work go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and select Internal microphone, it might need to be turned up. From that screen it can be tested to make sure it's functioning and picking up sound

No sound is heard with calls on Skype, I get video, and i hear sounds made by the program, but no sound from the recipient of the caller. I get sound when I video chat Mac to Mac, but not Mac to Windows,...

Ok, by the sound of it both yourself and whoever you're calling have not set up Skype quite right.
On your end, you need to:
  • Make sure you have a working microphone - try using Skype's built in 'Echo' feature (try calling 'echo123')
  • In Skype -> Preferences -> Audio, make sure that microphone is selected.
On their end, make sure they've done the same - they must have a working microphone, correctly setup with Skype in order to send you sound.
Hope that helped!

My webcam isn't working on Skype during video calls

Hello,

To set up your webcam, please follow these steps:

Download and install the most recent drivers for your video device. If your video camera does not have drivers for Mac OS X, please use the drivers.

Select your video device in Skype under Skype Preferences- Video. This step is not required if you have an Apple iSight.
Make sure the option Enable Skype video is ticked. You can also set video privacy settings to desired options in the same window.

The minimum system requirements for Skype 2.0 for Mac are a Mac OS X v10.3.9 Panther or newer, G4 800 MHz and above, any G5 or Intel processor, 512MB RAM, 40 MB free disk space on your hard drive and a microphone.

Suggested webcams include Apple iSight, Philips SPC900NC, or Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000.

Video and call quality may vary greatly in environments with conditions below these recommendations. Please be sure, that your webcam is connected and not in use with another program.

If you experience any issues with your webcam, please contact the manufacturer directly.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks.

Hey, webcam problems

e cause of a Web Cam's microphone to stop working can be either a hardware issue or a result from incorrect configurations. Recommendations:
Determine whether it is a hardware problem by testing the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
We also recommend using the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.
Additional Information:
Multimedia keyboards that have the ability to control your computer volume may have software that can interfere with your webcamera's sound. If you have a Multimedia keyboard with volume control, the keyboard's software may need to be uninstalled in order for the camera's microphone to work properly in Windows.
