Re: Vista messed up speakers

Hi Avsandrick
Happy Holidays!
Doing a driver search don't help much, so I recommend 2 things here, wait until MS, make a Service Pack Cd, for Vista, or go to the Altec Lansing Page and see if for your particular model, there are drivers for vista.
other than that, a generic sound driver, could fix the problem.

My altec lansing bx1020 is not working after i upgraded my pc to windows 7.

The problem is not with your speakers.
When you upgrade to a new Operating System, sometimes your hardware is not recognized correctly by the new OS.
In your computer, the sound card is not installed correctly. Search for Windows 7 sound drivers for your sound card and install.
If you think the problem is with your speakers, you can check by connecting them to another computer or an audio device.

I have Altec Lansing speakers on a recenty upgraded PC using Windows 7. I have no sound. The sound jack guide advises me to plug the jacks to colour ports that don't exist. ????

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager sound video and game controllers could be a yellow question or exclamation mark ! ? or red x right click to re-install drivers if these drivers are not suitable on the home page you should see the download software finder under that there will be a list platform, category sub category price from the category drop down list select drivers then from the price drop down list select free or which ever applies to your need

How do you set up altec lansing speakers on a windows vista computer

If they have regular speaker jacks (1/8th inch) it should be a breeze. Just plug them to the corresponding audio jack, depending if you have a stereo or surround sound setup it may be one cable or a few, and vista should use your existing sound drivers and output the audio to the speakers. Otherwise you can adjust your speaker settings in control panel, which you shouldnt need to. Hope it helps. It can get tricky, let me know if it doesnt work out.

Connected to laptop with vista via USB connection to speakers - NO sound

A letter from Altec: E-mail from Altec Lansing explaining how to use the ACS 495 speakers with Windows XP and Vista: "These speakers require no special drivers or software to work properly. At the current time we do not have AMS software or an USB audio device driver compatible with Windows XP or Vista. There are no plans at this time to develop this software. Your speakers will work with Windows XP & Vista. Just make sure you use the audio cable from the back of the subwoofer to the audio or sound out port of your sound card. Do not use the USB cable. Sound does not come through the USB port The USB cable just allows you to use the AMS software. This software gives you some control over some of the sound features. The same functionality of the AMS software can be gotten by using the buttons on the speakers and the volume control software that comes with your Windows system. If you double click the speaker icon from the system tray, that will open this software up. With the USB connector removed or the computer turned off, STEREO or PRO LOGIC modes can be selected by depressing and holding the center control down for approximately three seconds. The mode selected will be indicated by the color of the LED on the front right speaker. When the light glows yellow it is in the STEREO mode. When the light is green it is in the PRO LOGIC mode."

My Altec Lansing

Hi, I would suggest that you should check into your computer rather than your speakers. Specifically your sound card and its drivers. Try going to your Device Manager and check your Sound, Video and Game Controllers. There should not be any Yellow markings anywhere. Cheers
