Question about DFI : CA64TC S370/VIA/ATX Motherboard (MOTDF01)

DFI CA64-T REV:A Motherboard

I`ve got a red light in front of the first IDE-Bus socket.
the second socket is used by the Ethernet card, which had worked until last days normally in my home network.
The problem is now that the card is not work properly anymore.
My question is about the meaning of this red LED in front of the
bus-enterance.( What does this mean ? ) - Maybe there is an
interuption on the card or something like this ?
I only want to know If there`s a possibility for repairing or should I better buy directly a new one.
Thanks for your help, anyway.

Re: DFI CA64-T REV:A Motherboard

The meaning of the red is to let you know that the card is working properly. If it some how came loose, the light won't be on continuously. Take out the Ethernet card and place it back into the slot evenly and all the way in. Secure it with a screw or bolt on the outside of the pc.

How do you connect IDE device to GA-Z87X-UD4H

This particular motherboard does not provide IDE connections for external devices. The safest option would be to use an IDE expansion card that will plug into the PCI bus and provide normal IDE connections for your devices.
A quick search to google for "ide expansion card" will provide many good results.

Can you elaborate the functions of this product....

The following applies to motherboards such as an AsRock K7S41GX.
It does NOT apply to motherboards supporting the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i9 processors.

1) Motherboard diagram,

A) CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
The 'Brain' of the computer.

B) Front Side Bus. Also abbreviated as FSB.
The FSB is the 'Information Highway' between the Processor, and the Northbridge chip.

[Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit, ]

C) The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of the computer.
It is named NORTHbridge, because on the orientation of the motherboard, it is to the North of the motherboard.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities of the computer.

D) The Northbridge handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.
AGP and PCI Express are high speed graphic technologies.

A graphics card used in a PCI expansion slot, and Integrated Graphics are NOT high speed graphics.

E) The Southbridge handles Integrated Graphics, (OnBoard graphics. Same/same), and the PCI bus.
A graphics card inserted into a PCI expansion slot is one example of Southbridge support.

Any add-in card inserted into a PCI expansion slot, is in the PCI bus.
Therefore handled by the Southbridge chip.

The Southbridge chip also handles IDE (PATA), and SATA harddrives.
Handles USB ports, Ethernet port/s, audio, and the CMOS memory.

F) The Internal Bus is the 'Information Highway' between the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

G) The LPC Bus is the 'Information Highway' between the Southbridge chip, and the Super I/O chipset.
The LPC Bus is also the 'Information Highway' between the Southbridge chip, and the BIOS chipset.

H) The Super I/O chipset handles,
Serial port
Parallel port
Floppy Disk Drive

The AsRock K7S41GX has;

A) Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462

Can use AMD processors that fit in a Socket A processor socket, and have either a 200MegaHertz, 266MHz, or 333MHz FSB.

Here is the CPU Support List,

Supports DDR Sdram ram memory at either 266MHz, or 333MHz.
PC2100 and PC2700, respectively.

Maximum TOTAL Amount of Ram Memory is 2GB
Maximum Amount for EACH ram memory slot is 1GB.
There are two ram memory slots.

Has an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics expansion slot, that supports AGP 4X , or AGP 8X graphics cards. (1.5 Volt)

Has two PCI expansion slots

Supports IDE (PATA) harddrive/s. (2 maximum)
Supports IDE optical drives. (CD or DVD, or burners for both)

The motherboard chipset is a SiS 741GX - Northbridge, and the SiS 963L - Southbridge

What are the functions of its parts?

1) Motherboard Diagram, (Proper computer speak for motherboard is Mainboard. I just use Mobo.

2) Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon Ultra - motherboard diagram,

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.
The 'Brain' of the computer.

The Processor sits in a processor socket.
The processor socket for the Soyo SY-KT400 is a Socket A. Also known as Socket 462.

The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge chip, and Southbridge chip.

The motherboard chipset for the Soyo SY-KT400 is the VIA KT400 - Northbridge chip, and the VIA VT8235 - Southbridge chip.

The Northbridge chip handles the Faster capabilities of the computer.

The Northbridge chip determines what Processors can be supported, what Ram Memory can be supported, and High-Speed graphics.

High-Speed graphics being AGP and PCI Express, not a graphics card installed in a PCI slot, nor Integrated Graphics.

The Processor communicates with the Northbridge chip through the Front Side Bus. (FSB)
Think of the FSB as an 'Information Highway'.

The Northbridge chip communicates TO the Southbridge chip through the Internal Bus.

The Southbridge chip handles the Slower capabilities of the computer.

The Southbridge chip handles IDE, SATA, USB, Ethernet, Integrated Graphics, and the PCI bus.
(As in a graphics card installed in a PCI expansion slot, for one example)

Also handles information from the Super I/O chipset.
The Soyo SY-KT400 - Super I/O chipset is a VIA VT1211

There are 5 PCI slots. All connected to the PCI bus, which is connected to the Super I/O chipset.

Click on this link,

Scroll down a little bit to the photo of the Soyo SY-KT400 motherboard.

A) At the top middle is the Processor socket. White in color, rectangular in shape, square hole in the middle, and socket holes on it.

To the immediate left of the Processor socket are 8 Electrolytic Capacitors in a row.
These capacitors are Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors. (Used all over the motherboard)

These particular 8 are part of the motherboard voltage regulator circuit.
Specifically, voltage regulation for the Processor.

B) To the right of the Processor socket are three long Black Ram Memory slots. (Proper computer speak for Slot, is Bank. 3 Ram Memory Banks)

C) The Blue and the White connectors to the right of the Ram Memory slots are IDE connectors.
One for the Harddrive, the other one for the optical drive/s.

D) Underneath the Processor is the Northbridge chip. There is a clear fan sitting on it.

E) The large square Black chip with VIA on it, below the Ram Memory slots, and to the right of the purple PCI slots, is the Southbridge chip.

F) The 5 purple long slots are PCI expansion slots.

G) To the right of the bottom purple PCI slot is the CMOS battery.

H) Above the purple PCI slots is a brown AGP slot.
Uses AGP 8X graphics cards

Single long beep - the RAM is no longer recognized as present. Try the ram stick in another pc, if it works there then the motherboard has died, you will have to replace it.

DFI CA64-TC motherboard maxed out at 1 GB memory.

If you've maxed out memory you've outgrown the board. It would be my suggestion to purchase a newer board that can hold more memory. Most boards today can handle from 4 -8 gb of ram.

Good Luck
