vertical lines on a Bravia 42 inch LCD.. Appears to be the TV - tried on antenna mode and still have vertical lines.

You probably have a bad LCD Panel. If the unit is out of Warrenty, call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they would be willing to help with the repair. They would requier a Service Facility to come out and varify that the Panel is bad.
