Electric Cooktop Heating Elements Get Hot, Turn Off, Get Hot, Turn Off

I have a DECU 165-5BSB electric cooktop. When I turn the cooktops heating elements on they will get hot and then turn off--and then get hot agian. Also, when they get hot and I decide to turn it down to a lower setting the heating element will kick off. Is it suppose to do this? The heating elements should stay red hot continuosly correct? What is the problem? Thanks.

Burn knobs and fan turn on, lights are on but the burners don't come on and there is no heat.

hello after looking at your wiring diagram the only thing it can be is a blown breaker in your home. half of it works off 120v of the 240v circuit and the heating elements off the other 120v line. so you are only getting half the power to your unit. turn the breakers off and on see if maybe it just tripped.but its not the cooktop. hope this helps please dont forget to rate me thanks ken

Jenn Air cooktop JED8430ADB not heating, fan & knob lights work?

Some times a breaker can be partially tripped and not visible . You should try turning the breaker off and on several times.

always unplug electricity before attempting to repair on any electrical appliance

All 4 elements suddenly won't heat--worked fine this am. Circuit breaker was tripped. Reset, now lights on knobs come on, but still no heating.

Likely a short in the junction box. Turn off the breaker and open the junction box for inspection. Problem is likely at the cooktop end of the feed from the breaker.

Check voltage at the junction. Should one side of the corcuit be dead, turn off power and call an electrician as the wiring probably has had a short due to staple or nail penetration and would be a fir hazard. Call an electrician if this is the case.

Whirlpool ceramic cooktop

Scott,
On each of the heating elements there is a thermostat that does two things. It is a high limit safety thermostat and then a different set of contacts turn on the hot surface light. Unfortunately, you can't just replace that part. You will need to isolate which element it is with a mutimeter and replace the entire element.When you turn one of the units on high you will see a dark line under the glass running 1/2 way across the elements. Those are the thermostats... Find the defective one and the rest is pretty simple to replace

Whirlpool electric Cooktop's one burner not heating

Hi,

Initially, it could either be:
  • open heating element (most likely);
  • open temperature limiter (least likely);
  • faulty/loose connection/wiring (a possibility).
Please confirm that it is a Whirlpool RCC3024 Electric Cooktop.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Knob not working and some burners not heating

The switch under that knob is bad.  It's called an infinite switch.  As far as the elements go, first thing to check is for proper voltage (220) to the cooktop.  Let me know what you find.
