Question about Bissell 3522 PowerForce Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Brush is not rotating.

I have an upright bagged Bissell Powerforce. The brush is not spinning and I don't know how to fix it. The bag was totally full so I took it out and the brush still wasn't spinning. There is also no suction coming from the tube. Please help.

Re: Brush is not rotating.

Turn the vac over, remove the access plate, covering the brush roll, 2 to 4 screws. Brush roll part number is 2032032if you need it, belt is a Bissell Style 7. While you have the brush roll off, check in dirt inlet to see if it is clogged, also check the hose to see if it is clogged. You won't feel suction at the bag tube, it has to have a bag on it and the lid closed before it will create suction.

Bissell powerforce with bag, not picking up, but alot of suction in hose. Brushes are rotating, just not picking up.

Flip it over and unscrew the screws that hold the bottom skid to the chassis. Pull that off and check the intake to the hose. You will likely find it stopped up there.

Bissell 3522 can use to wooden hard floor

Hi Marian. Thanks for asking this question. The Powerforce vacuum has a bare floor setting; however, you may want to contact the hard floor manufacturer for their recommendation regarding the use of a rotating brush.

How do I change the belt on a Bissell Powerforce model 3522-1?

this is how you do it Lower handle and place vacuum on floor so you can see bottom of power head. Examine the power head to remember what it should look like when finished. Unscrew the four screws (Phillips screwdriver). Lift off cover. Lift out brush. Remove belt from brush and motor shaft. Place new belt around motor shaft, then around brush just prior to reinserting brush. Make sure the belt is placed correctly. Reinsert brush in slots. Rotate manually toward motor a few time to center the belt. Replace cover and screws. Tighten securely. Check cover to make sure it's properly secured.

The brush wont rotate!!!! how can i fix that??? It stated smoking! I opened it and found the band broken. I replaced it and the brush will not rotate! why

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Take the bottom off, with only using a phillips head, and see if it melted the plastic that lets the beater bar rotate. If so, just replace the obvious parts damaged by going to I just ordered my three parts for around $40.00, including shipping (three parts).

I have the bissell power force bagged upright vacuum and the brush is not turning, I have replaced the belt but the brush will not move but the metal piece that is hooked to the motor that spins the belt...

sounds like your brush roll is seized. Remove the brush roll (see picture) and make both of the end caps spin freely. If not, replace it and you should be set.

*An example of a brush roll*
Make sure that the brush roll spins freely.

Hope that helps.

Brush heads won't spin

Your belt is stretched, worn or broken and therefore not turning the brush. Here is a link for the replacement belts you need and the manual which has instructions:

Yes, there are belts for both sides, but if they look ok, then the brush motor may be bad. Brush motor part # 2036757 , right side belt # 2036804 left side belt # 2036688
