Question about Toshiba 42HM66 42" Projection HDTV

42HN66 I have had my Toshiba 42HM66 since Nov 11/06, The 42HM66 worked great for 3 months after that we have had nothing but problems, the set would freeze up when you turned it off, the only way to fix the problem was to unplug the set and plug it back in. The picture quality was terrible, Oct of 07 it went into toshiba repair shop they replaced the mother board, we received the set back 3 weeks later, the set worked even worse. We had the 42HM66 back for 5 days before it was back to the repair shop That was Nov.13/07 It is now Dec. 29/07 and we do not expect to get the set back for at least another week or so. Following are the problems we have had with our 42HM66 the set would freeze up when you turned it off, both the off light and the on light would flash the only way to reset the set so it would work was to unplug and replug the set in. When this problem started we would be watching tv and we would ,loose the picture but we would have sound or we would loose sound but not the picture, the picture quality was very poor. The quality would very from channel to channel, from washed out to reds so vivid they would be blurred. When the set came back the repair shop lost our remote, but the set did not work any better. The set would still freezw up put this time it would try to restart itself. You would turn the TV off bith the off lingt and the on light would flash yellow then the on light would slowly turn green and you would hear a single word, he set would then turn back off and the proccedure would start all over again. You can not turn the set on or off, it is frozen. The repair shop has had the set since Nov. 13/07 we will not get it back untill Jan. /08 no date for return as yet. With the problem with the lamp lasting only 1/3 the actual life expectance that Toshiba knows about and the treatment I have received, I will never buy another Toshiba Prd. Dec 29/07 Bill Gardner

Toshiba 42HM66 42 in. HDTV - I am trying to hook up an antenna to my TV. How do I set the tv to receive the signal

I am not sure. It depends on how you want the unit to work. Basic is to just insert the coax from the antenna and use the menu functions to select the correct configuration on screen.

Toshiba M#42HM66 First lamp blew after approx 3 years Bought new lamp and it blew after 3 days. Could I have another problem other than the lamp

Yes usually for a lamp to fail there is a drive problem, one must always fix the causative problem, behind the failure, or as you have seen it will simply reappear. The most common problem is "Dirty Power" to the lamp. But I think it is a problem for the serviceman/center.

Toshiba 42HM66 has a whirring noise that stops when power off

this is a bad color wheel, however you cannot just change the color wheel on this set you have to replace the entire light engine.

Toshiba 42HM66 and it shuts off on its own. Im not sure if its getting hot or if the bulb needs to be replaced. It will just shut off at any moment without the 10 sec countdown that happens when I manually...

remove bulb and place in freezer for 5 minutes. the when unit comes on, go into menu and find lamp setting. select and it will ask you if you replaced bulb. select yes which resets the lamp time to zero hours

Have a Toshiba 42hm66 tv. The HDMI port has quit

The best thing to do is to call Toshiba at 1800-631-3811 and see if they could refer a Service Facility to you to check it out. I would guess that that Board that has the HDMI Port on it needs to be replaced but it is not a easy or simple job.
I hope this helps,

Keeps turning off by itself after about 30 minutes

Is your air intake clean or clogged.. Maybe it's overheating causing it to shut off.. Had the same problem didn't replace the bulb but cleaned the intake and it works great again. Worth a try.. Intake is located on the left back pannel of the tv.. outside pannel pops off easly.

Lamps burned every 6-9 months.

This is indeed a very common problem with the Toshiba products. The reason I asked about the time is that the television bulbs are estimated to last on average 4,000 viewed hours, which you are only coming up short of 50%.

Toshiba is offering an extended warranty free on the product that does cover the bulb replacement.
is the link for this extended warranty.

After researching your particular make and model, I have found that the average span for a bulb is indeed 9-12 months. Beyond this extended warrant, Toshiba is offering no further assistance, and will only replace it once. They have also been having issues with the color wheel going out at an average cost of $750.00 which under warranty they will replace one time only.

There is nothing you can do beyond replacing the lamps, however my suggestion would be to replace the television itself, and stay away from Toshiba.
