Question about Acer Aspire 5630 Notebook
My boyfriend was ripping CD's onto window's media player - the Kanye West album in fact, and it started making noises as if the laptop was having trouble loading the songs. So he pressed the 'stop ripping' button which didn't do anything and the CD still sounded as if it were having trouble so he opened the CD drive and removed the CD. Then the window's media player page froze, the egg timer was running and he left it running for a few minutes but nothing was happening, so then he turned the laptop off by pressing the power key as nothin else would work not even pressing CTRL - ALT - DEL. Then he turned the laptop back on and a message appeared saying "the computer security had a problem setting up" (not sure of the whole message), it asked him to click OK so he did and then the screen went black, the cursor arrow is on the screen but there is nothing else, just a black screen and the cursor arrow. The power button won't let us turn it off. Would taking the battery out and putting it back in do any harm? Hope you can help, oh and Merry Christmas! Kate
Taking out the battery would do just as much harm as holding the power button down would. This could make you lose some memory or even corrupt important files. But if you have truly tried everything else (even holding the power button down until it shut off) and it still did not shut off then you would need to take the battery out to be able to try and fix it.
If possible, I would take it to a computer shop to avoid the possible corruption of your important files.
