Battery: Fast Discharge, Slow Charge, Charging Lights Flicker, Runs off battery when plugged in

Satellite M35X. Replaced with new battery and power cord - almost $100 on laptops for less. My complaint is not with them. I think it's a Toshiba laptop problem. Front lights flicker on and off when turned off. Have to jiggle cord to keep them glowing. When using laptop, goes back and forth between AC and DC power. Battery continues to discharge - a percent every minute or so - though plugged in. Will eventually reach 100% charge. Often takes overnight. Used to be, maybe, an hour. Have 2 other friends with Toshibas, same problem. And no - do NOT feel comfy in opening/soldering power jack. Scrap it and buy another laptop???

Re: Battery: Fast Discharge, Slow Charge, Charging Lights...

Problems sounds like a damaged power pin from pulling or jerking on the AC cable. I use a Cable Retention Device like the one in this video to keep from hurting the pin.

Re: Battery: Fast Discharge, Slow Charge, Charging Lights...

Hey, definely sounds like the power jack is your problem, i have seen many companys including ourself soldering on the jack, but there never the same, ie easilly broken off again.
i dont think your power jack is making direct contact, i know you can move it about till u get the charge.
but i would say thats your fault..
Sorry i cant help more

Have a good new year

Dell c640 battery not charging

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

NEW Battery not properly charging

Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

Hp laptop battery problem

You won't like this solution--your battery is bad or your motherboard is bad. If the battery does not charge, it could have acquired a "memory." That is, it sees itself full when it really isn't and it will run down very fast.
If the battery doesn't charge at all, it could be the motherboard. One other thing you could try is cleaning the contacts on both the battery and the computer. This may help--could be dirty contacts are preventing it from working correctly.

Toshiba Satellite A100 VA1 system unit model# PSAAKC - VA104C

Does the system power on using the AC adapter?

How old is the battery?

If the system powers on and runs normally on AC, and only the battery fails to charge, the 1st thing I would look at is the battery itself.

Batteries in portable systems have a lifespan of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles before they normally fail. This is why portable batteries have a 1 year warranty regardless of the system warranty.

If replacing the battery does not resolve, then you most likely need a motherboard replacement.
