My Yamaha RX-A830 won't play the sub. I've reset the speakers with the mic multiple times but it's still not working. I confirmed that the sub works on another receiver.

There is a difference between SUB and LFE. In 5.1 mode, the LFE is the ".1" channel. It will output bass only when audio information signal is addressed to this channel. In stereo mode, depending of the receiver setting, it can output normal bass when front speakers cannot handle low frequency. In setup menu, you'll probably have to set your Front speakers as "Small" to make the sub channel taking the relay in low frequencies. There also can be many other reasons for your problem but this might be the solution. Good luck!

I have 2 12in kenwoods and a 1200 watt pyrimade amp, how can i hook these up to be the loudest

1st have your subs facing inwards towards the front of the car, not facing out the boot, This creates a better bass.

Wire 1 sub to one channel and the other sub to the other channel.

Turn down your gain as low as possible and then power everything up.

turn volume to desired loudness and then start turning up the gain slowly, if distorts a little turn in back down a notch.

avoid using bass boost, I agree it sounds great but it puts more strain on your amp and shortens its life.

after sorting out your gain, tweak all others until sound is bassy and clear with no distortion.

If you would like to use bass boost, turn on bass boost first, then up your gain etc.

Htddw7600, brand new, sub amp is not working, only way to get any bass sound is to unplug the sub cable from back of main amp and touch it on side of sub out port.

H?,
You have a very good system...one of the best of SONY..SUB does not get activated automatically especially on STEREO mode.DIRECT STEREO Notes • No sound will be output from the subwoofer.
.your system has Dedicated Power Amplifier for 2 Externally Driven Sub-Woofers (200W RMS x 2)..in order to activate the sub woofer amplifier you need to make a selection on the surround modes while you are switching the modes of the surround you will see the speaker position on the display of receiver as well..if you do not see the sub woofer it wont be activated..Sound Field Program (A.F.D) is a good example to test it..
Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me 4 Thumbs Up

Hope this helps!

--------------------
Additionally please follow the instruction on your user manual to activate the SUB ,as is follows..

-----------------
BASS-OUT
Low-frequency (bass) signals can be directed to the
subwoofer and/or the front left and right speakers
according to the characteristics of your system. This
setting also determines the routing of the LFE (low-
frequency effect) signals found in Dolby Digital or DTS
sources.
Choices: SWFR (subwoofer), FRONT, BOTH
• Select SWFR if you connect a subwoofer. LFE and
low-frequency signals from other channels are directed
to the subwoofer according to the speaker settings.
• Select FRONT if you do not use a subwoofer. LFE and
low-frequency signals from other channels are directed
to the front speakers according to the speaker settings
(even if you have previously set the front speakers to
SML).
• Select BOTH if you connect a subwoofer and you want
to output low-frequency signals from front channels to
both the front speakers and subwoofer. LFE and low-
frequency signals from other channels are also directed
to the subwoofer according to the speaker settings. Use
this function to reinforce low-frequency signals using
the subwoofer when playing back sources such as CDs.

Why does the Clarion 2001 have a left and right channel input if the output is mono?

reason is there is separate bass on both input channels that you want to include in the sub channel. For example, if bass drum is on left channel and bass guitar is on right channel, you need both to hear all of the bass music from your single sub. OK?

I have an Onkyo HT-R8230 receiver and I can not get any sound out of the center channel or the subwoofer. The sub will not even power on. It stays in the standby mode and there is no manual on/off button...

The manual is available at retrevo.com.

If you don't have the center and sub defined in the Onkyo they will never work. See page 20.

If that is all set and you still have problems...

To prove the center speaker works, connect it to one of the front channels.

To prove the sub works, connect it via RCA cable(s) to the Tape Out and play something containing deep bass. You should see it come out of standby and hear something, albeit only the deep bass.

I need to turn up the bass on my denon amp

A few ways to get more bass here you go John.

If you have a sub check your level and crossover settings on sub and on amp, on the sub half volume and 90-120 crossover should be kicking,

Run a speaker level test on your denon and turn up sub channel.

if you want more bass in your speakers press the tone button on the front panal. for some i believe its in the menu system under parameter

Depending on what the source is you can turn up the bass on the source. aka ipod, some dvd players and what have you.

Can I use front preouts for subwoofer?

First, you have to have a self-powered subwoofer (or two) with this reciver. That means the sub has its own amplifier. These are usually capable of accepting either Line Level (RCA) input or direct L and R amplifier channel speaker wires from your receiver from which it will react only to frequencies in its range. It doesn't actually use any if the power from your receiver's amp.

That is why you can extend your front speakers from the sub. Again, understand this - it is not playing any part in amplifying them. The amps in your receiver are just passing through it.

Setting your speaker 'Type' definition to Large will tell your receiver that they are capable of real bass (as opposed to small satellites) but won't necessarily steal anything from the subs. Set your LFE/Bass Out setting to Both if your front speakers are capable of handling real bass. Why would you want to deny them bass if they can handle it?

This part is confusing "If I can get the sub working on taking the lows out of the front speakers if I set them to large on the receiver then that is one thing less to send to the other sub on the LFE channel". The crossover feature allows you to define what bass goes to the sub. You would use the various points to smooth out the transition between your sub and the rest. Your quote of 47hz spec for something doesn't suggest your other speakers are great bass reproducers. One needs to see the +- db spec with less than x% distortion for that number make any sense.

Your receiver has two RCA Subwoofer Outputs but I'm sure they get the exact same level. If you're having trouble matching two different subs doesn't at least one of them have an adjustment for volume? Or maybe you could use physical positioning to adjust their comparative volume.

Very low ouput from subwoofer preout

The problem was that some subwoofers (inluding my velodyne model) cannot process the LFE signals through the line level inputs on its amps, so the other way to run your subwoofer is to run the front left and right speaker outputs from your receiver to the speaker-level inputs on your sub, and then plug your front and left speakers into the soeaker level outputs on the sub. you have to set the onkyo receiver to "Subwoofer: No". that way the LFE signals are sent through the front speaker channels and you will get the same BASS output as if using the line-level input. O So yes it does require a bit more speaker cable, but it works fine now.

Blown channel?

your amp try to protect itself from damage when he feels some trouble from your sub.-start by changing sub cabel and sub itself if it does not becomes ok.
if all above failed---you have serious problem in sub output stage and can be fixed in service center.
