Question about Canon i860 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

I860 not recognizing letter size

My i860 has been performing beautifully for years. All of a sudden, it is not recognizing the paper size of a document I need to print. Despite the page set-up being letter size in both the document page set-up and the print set-up, it thinks I have photo size and the special tray set up. NOT!!!
I have tried shutting down and rebooting (both the puter and the printer) and reinstalling the software. It's a no go.
Thanks for any ideas to clear this up.

Re: i860 not recognizing letter size

I would , personally delete the printer and re-install it...

Seems drastic, but would be really quick.

Not guaranteed to work...

I have a Canon ImageRUNNER 3235i black and white copier. I have the Cassette Feeding Unit-Y3 installed allowing two additional trays for legal and 11x17 paper sizes. The problem is that the copier doesn't...

This copier does not recognize the paper size automatically. Open the paper drawer and look at the right hand side you will see a dial, Turn that until the paper size you want aligns with the arrow. This sets the paper size.

Paper Available does not include legal (only letter and A4). Tried to go into the Advanced Properties - no legal available? The printer recognizes the legal tray but the laptop does not.

Try setting the paper size in the printer settings.
Click Printer and Faxes then right click on the HP Laserjet 4350 and click on Properties, then Device Settings tab and click on the down arrow and click on Tray 1 or 2 that has the Letter Paper installed and select the Letter paper size. Then click OK.
This paper tray is now configured for Letter paper.

My printer keeps asking me to Load Mp Feeder letter even after i checked if the papers were lined up properly in tray one. what do i do now?

Hi. Here are some tips to remedy the problem. First, check if the printer is able to detect the exact paper size placed in the trays. Second, check the autosize pins on the left side of the tray and make sure they are not broken. If not broken and the printer is not recognizing the exact paper size (ex. universal instead of letter or legal), try to re-adjust the paper guide, if currently on letter, set it to legal if the printer recognizes the change. Powercycle the device after the change. If still not resolved, printer needs to be serviced recommending the autosize card, cable (if there is any) and the system board. Hope this helps.

Driver installation progam says "print head needs alignment" but doesn't say how to do it.

Canon i860

Align printhead automatically:

1) Be sure that the printer is powered on and letter size plain white paper is loaded in the sheet feeder

2) Press and hold the <Resume/Cancel> button, and release it when the Power lamp blinks four times.

The alignment pattern sheet should now be printed out. Wait for the pattern sheet to finish printing.

The printer should stop prompting you for this procedure.

Check and make sure the paper setting is on what it thinks it is. In other words, make sure the the paper in the tray is letter and the display says letter, instead of letter-r (letter-r runs the long way from side to side in the tray, and letter runs the long way from front to back in the tray) or any other size. I am not familiar with the set up of the paper trays on that machine, but if you have to program the paper size yourself, make sure it is what it is.

Says no paper - but there is paper - was working fine now all of a sudden - have done all the trouble shooting and resetting.

Solved at last!!!

The problem isn't mechanical... I just realized that the "no paper" error posts when the software is trying to print to a paper size not supported by the printer. Go to Page Setup and make sure Paper Size is set to Letter.

In my case, the document I was trying to pring was set to Paper Size: Custom, probably because it was a scanned document and it didn't default to Size: Letter automatically. Hope this solution helps someone end their frustration...

Paper tray default issues

you need to go into the print menu on the printer and change the paper tray size back to letter, when you have it right there will be an asterik next to letter confirming that it was programmed

Tray output

You should configure TRAY 1 as Legal only.
and Tray 2 as plain letter.

Specially when you specify from what tray/paper type to print.

This can be easily configured from the Printer Properties within the Printers and Faxes section of the Control Panel.

Good luck!
