The only thing that can burn in a drier is lint most of the time if lints building up in a drier depending on age its because of poor venting if the drier heats but it takes longer than an hour to dry clothes you have a vent restriction but every few years you should take it appart and clean it out now kenmores drums run on rubber wheels and like a car they get flat spots in them so they roar and bump when they first start but should get quiter as you run more loads during the day

Kenmore elite front load dryer squeaking and burning smell

you have a bearing in the drum support that has frozen and now the rubber wheel is burning up. The bearing needs to be replaced ASAP. You could damage the dryer if you continue to use it.

Kenmore whirlpool dryer won't start and has a bad burning smell

You may have an overheat sensor that is burning up. The dryer won't start because the heat would be uncontrollably high otherwise

Dryer smells like something is burning. Heard a snap but checked the belt and it is intact.

The burning smell usually comes from an overheating motor. Onces it heats to a certain point, it will trip the thermal switch on the motor. Motor should be getting around 11 amps. Best of luck :)

Dryer got very hot and smelled burning..

This is usually a result of a stalling idler pulley or drum, causing a burned spot on the drum drive belt.

The situation will only worsen. The belt is best replaced before it breaks.

Items to pay attention to, when the drum drive belt is replaced, are:
(1) Clean and lube the idler pulley and drum roller shafts.
(2) Confirm that the drum glides will yield additional service life.
(3) Check motor condition and de-lint the blower housing and blower intake pathways.

How do you check the belt?

You will have to lift the top to check the belt and also for access to change it. Burning could also be lint or wires so if it was not the belt make sure you find the reason and repair that carefully.

Kenmore 800 dryer burning smell and noise.

Access is from the front. Lint screen on top? 2 screws under screen, putty knife to release front clips between top and cabinet. Top folds back and 2 5/16 screws in top corners. Lean front towards you then lift up off lower hangers. Good luck.....
