Question about Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Magnavox convergence problem.

I replaced the infamous STK chips and 6 - 6.8ohm resistors. The issue still remains! Now it almost seems worse. I adjusted the CRT by focus but I dont think thats the issue. It must be the convergence section.

The STK chips I got do not have the same number in the upper right hand corner. Possible culprit? The chip itself is printed STK392-120, which is the correct replacement.

What do you think?

You could be right, for more info ctechnicians.com has much info. What did your old IC's say? And did you replace fuses in that area?

Magnavox rl8530 convergence is way off. how can i fix it? the image is angled and the the three colors are not aligned at all.

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Convergence problems TOSHIBA TP55H60

you need to replace the convergence ic's these are the stk-xxx-xxx chips found on heat-sinks
on or around the main chassis don't adjust the tubes or anything else this will only make things worse after you replace them you can do the user alignment also check the values of the resistors in the circuit as they may be off now pay close attention to the resistors that have a value less than 10 ohms these are critical to the correct alignment if in doubt replace the resistor.

most like tes thats all your going to have to replace + the silicon as if you dont thet wil not last as long as they should. Also you may have blow fuseable resistors next to the ICs make sure you check them as well.
