Freezer has slowly quit working, fan runs almost contiously. I checked the coils inside freezer they are froze. What would cause this to happen? Is there a part that needs to be replaced.

they were completely froze over. I believe that is the least of my worries now. I was removing the main board cover not knowing what it was and the cover hit the board causing a spark, now nothing will work, is there some kind of breaker or something to reset or will I have to replace the main board?

We were told that our heating element went out but we have replaced it and it has gone out twice in a month with us replacing the heating element again. Now we have been told to also change the thermostat. Please help. Are we maybe not putting the in the heating element correctly??

Hello,
Read this article on defrost problems and see if it applies to you.   This will help you out.  I have written this article to help explain what happens in a defrost problem.  If you  have any other questions after reading it, let me know.
Thanks, Bill

Well now you have two problems.

I have a similar problem with mine. I looked at my Control Board last week (I pulled the plug first) and I believe that there was a fuse on the board itself. So with luck you can replace that and be back to where you started.

Old older models this type of problem was often due to the defrost system. Often the defrost timer was bad, or the defrost heater element was open. or the defrost termination switch was open. (or the evap. fan was kaput)

I have been unable to locate a wiring diagram for this unit; but, since there doesn't appear to be a defrost timer in the parts breakdown, I would assume that the control board handles these tasks. I know that this unit had issues with the defrost heater and whatever ends the defrost cycle. I'm not sure if it's a switch of thermistor.

Since you say that the evap fan is running, I would check the defrost heater and termination unit. Both should read some continuity. The heater should read very low ohms. Check the connection points for corrosion and/or burning.

Otherwise, I would suspect the control board.

I have since obtained a wiring diagram for this unit. It appears, as I surmised earlier, that there is no defrost timer, this task is accomplished by the Main Control Board.

The defrost heater should read about 18 ohms with an ohmeter. there is a thermostat (switch) in series with the heater which appears to end the defrost cycle. Normally this switch should be closed (zero ohms)

There are several thermistors in the system, one of which is on the evaporator. I'm not sure if this might intiate the defrost cycle or if defrost is initiated by elapsed time.

Do the coils look white or are they so totaly blocked with frost that you cant see them how old is the unit and is it electronic control
