viking gas cooktop vgsu161-6b sparks continuously. There is no gas leaking. I spilled water on the controls and it is only when I turn on the 3rd knob from the top that this happens.
The water that you spilled onto the cooktop has shorted out the ignition switch in the gas control knob. Don't worry though no permanent damage has been done. Leave it unplugged from the electrical outlet for a day or two until the liquid dries out. You can manually light the burners with matches or a BBQ lighter in the meantime. If you want to try and speed up the drying process you can use a hair dryer.

VGSU161 cooktop, wanted to take it apart to fix it, and was stumped at it's construction. I believe there must be a special set of sockets which fit in the notches in the brass rings to turn them which will release the bottom of the case from the top. You know those bad boys are gunked on there like nobody's business, too. Which of course brings up another point: what do you use to clean that cooked-on gunkus off the surface? It's a head-scratcher for me!

I can't get inside this thing to work on it! Is it welded together? Needs either new ignitor switches or module or ignitors, but I can't even get it apart to troubleshoot it. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, do most of my own work, but this is throwing me. Did I miss something easy? Thanks, John
