Question about Harman Kardon Harmon Kardon SoundStick II Speaker System Computer Speakers

1 Answer

HK FL8380 I just replaced my old HK component system (including FL 8380 disc changer) with an all-in-one Bose system. I moved my disc changer to my basement, but I forgot there was discs in it. They all slid to the back. Now all it shows "disc error" and the disc holder will not open. Please help. I just need to get it open. Thanks, Alex.

Re: HK FL8380

Happy Holidays!
Well, difficult problem here, you has to open the cover to remove manually on the changer de CD, other than that, prove leaving the on botton pressed when connected, and see if open,

Bose radio bad hum

one of the most common sources of hum is a failing power supply.
I don't know your radio specifics..... however, some things to consider/try : if it can be battery powered, try it with batteries.
If hum disappears, then source is power supply. Power supply
hums are usually 60 or 120 Hertz (cycles per second). The most
common failure component in power supply, causing a hum, are
the filter capacitors. If you do try to replace these, be very careful
and discharge the old caps before you remove them - to avoid a
(potentially dangerous) shock... caps can retain a charge for many
days, sometimes. Another source of hum is if the radio is close to
a flourescent light, or other appliance which may radiate power. If so,
try moving radio. If the hum is high pitched, then more info is needed.
Hope this helps!

Does a companion 5 bose speaker have a fuse?

You will need to change entire power supply/distribution circuit since you have managed to fry it all with twice the voltage required by the system. Speakers should be OK only the circuitry needs to be rectified and too by a professional/expert technician ...........sodeep

Bose Control Pod won't work

Try changing the plug on the control pod, those plugs are fairly weak and prone to breakage. Does there appear to be any strain at all on the plug itself? if so then that is where I would start. If you have a series 2 then I can help you, or if you can find out if the 2 control pods are the same, that would be fine too, but I have a series 2 system companion 3 and if needed I will cut my cable to trace the wiring and then replace your plug for you. my cost for this would be $40, that includes return shipping with priority mail.

Bose Companion 5 Down!

While I can not second guess your technician, perhaps the problem may not be that severe. The Bose Companion 5 is only on standby when plug (having no power switch) and therefore the power supply circuitry is the only one working. Chances are it will be only the +5VDC logic supply that is really turned on at that instant. All others would be OFF hence my belief that the problem may be limited to the PSU and/or part of the logic board. Perhaps you can suggest to your tech to test the logic board (motherboard) using an external +5 supply. All others can be be tested and repaired using component replacement.

Should you not be comfortable going this route, perhaps you best bet would then be to get in touch with Bose or their local representative.

You can try looking over the country here and the page will display a Bose contact information. Say the Philippines would be:

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
