Can't tune in tv with dvd states ext link problem

If you've connected the DVD to the TV via HDMI or SCART you shouldn't need to 'tune it in', just select the HDMI or SCART input. If your TV is also a Freeview device and you want to tune it to Freeview, where you have the aerial connected to the DVD recorder, you need to also connect the DVD recorder to the TV via an RF cable or aerial flylead so that the aerial signal passes through the DVD recorder. It's all in the instructions

How do I connect my DMR-EH57 to freeview

Connect a suitable aerial via a coaxial/RF lead to the 'RF in' socket. Connect another coaxial/RF lead from 'RF out' to your TV, and/or SCART or HDMI leads.

Access the 'setup' option within the menus to tune in to Freeview broadcasts.

Have a Panasonic DMR-EX77EB DVD recorder. The problems that I have is when I switch the unit on using the remote It sits on HDD option and the drive select button on the remote does not enable me to select...

Please try a bit more troubleshooting before drastically altering your unit with a different firmware version. I believe the problem you are having is that this unit is equipped with Viera Link and if you have it connected to your television with an hdmi cable this feature kicks in. If you connect to your television with a component cable you ought not experience the problem with it. Try that. If you wish to use the hdmi cable for possible improved reception then you'll have to either enable Viera Link in the player and your television's Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) or disable this in both the player and the television.

The unit is connected to a TV via HDMI lead. I am trying to record from an LP record player to dvd via the front connection of the dvd recorder, it is recording but at very low volume?

You need a phono pre amp between the Recorder and LP. The audio out put of LP player is very low. that why the volume is very low. You should amplify it using a phono pre amp and then connect to the recorder's input.

Hi, I am in Melbourne Australia. Can I receive gem hd channel thru my dmr-ez48v. I haven't tried but I do have a hd monitor screen that I can plug the unit into. Also what does the hdmi on the unit do....

HDMI means high definition multimedia interface.

When connected to an HDMI compatible unit, an uncompressed digital audio and video signal is transmitted, enabling you to enjoy high quality digital video and audio with just one cable. When connecting to an HDMIcompatible HDTV, the output can be switched to 1080p, 1080i or 720p HD video.

Panasonic uses Viera link option between their video products.

When connecting with a Panasonic TV (VIERA) or a receiver equipped with 'HDAVI Control' function, linked operations are possible. [Linked Operations with the TV (VIERA LinkTM HDAVI ControlTM)]

Please use HIGH SPEED HDMI cables that have the HDMI logo (as shown on the cover).
It is recommended that you use Panasonic's HDMI cable.
Recommended part number: RP-CDHG10 (1.0 m/3.3 ft.), RP-CDHG15 (1.5 m/4.9 ft.), RP-CDHG20
(2.0 m/6.6 ft.), RP-CDHG30 (3.0 m/9.8 ft.), RP-CDHG50 (5.0 m/16.4 ft.), etc.
Non-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be used.

(the above is from the owner's manual of this model - page 40 tells you about linked operation using HDMI HDAVI control and how to set it up)

As for Gem HD, this unit has an SD (standard definition) digital tuner - it will not decode/receive HD channels. I should point out that 7mate also is a HD channel but is not specified as such in any menu or even their website. (I found this out by accident when I tried to record on timer 7mate one day and all I got was 'unable to decode HD channel' banner at the bottom of a blank screen)

Channel 11 is a SD channel - so this will work with your DMR-EZ48 as will all the other relevant main free to air channels (ABC/7/9/10/SBS). GO! is also a SD channel.

To be able to record HD to this combo unit you will need a HD set top box connected via its AV inputs. HDMI simply means you will get HD video quality from the combo to the TV, you will not receive HD channels from your HDTV to your DMR-EZ48 unit via this method.
