Question about Kenmore 22085 Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Kenmore 23613 The vacuum when turned on has a burnt smell. My husband has taken the vacuum apart, still can't seem to get to the belt. The belt in the rug part is not the problem, it is something in the canister part. Can you tell me what you think might be our problem? Thanks!

My vacuum was working fine, then started to smell a little funny like something was burning. Turned it off. Now when you turn it on it will run for a few minutes and then shuts off, like something is...

The smell is usually the fan belt. When the brush is stuck in place, the belt spins and burns. Check to see if the brush is free to spin. If the Belt is burnt, it needs to be replaced.

Eureka 2961 BVZ no suction, burning smell

I have the same vacuum. The burning smell is letting you know that your belt is either broken or about to break. I have had mine for a year and have had to replace the belt 5 times. Now I have to replace the brush roller 'cause it broke under normal use. My next vacuum will be a Dyson Ball.

The brush isn't turning. Have cleaned around ends of brush. Looks like the motor isn't turning the belt.

Belt could be broken or has come off. It needs to be taken apart to find out. Not a hard fix usually. Since you didn't mention that it didn't squeal, got hot and smelled of burnt rubber or the roller didn't spin this is my guess.

Dirt Devil Jaguar Bagless Upright Burning Smell

take the belt off again you will see burnt rubber from the old belt stuck to the motor can take a fine piece of emery cloth and clean the shaft down to its polished finish.always good to do this after each belt.check the brush roller and see if there are any signsd of plastic melted.make sure it turns freely if not the brush roller might be siezing uo on youhave you cleaned the hepa filter?does it smell like wires burning or rubber.with it unlugged take it apart to the motor and take a fine iece of emery cloth and go over the motor armature .then try it can take all the filters out and run it without the filters.that will help you narrow it down.please leave feedback

Not picking up at all...burning smell..belt seems fine.

its one of 2 things, either your hose is blocked or you need a new belt, they do stretch over time. possibly the brushbar needs replacing too.

Broken power head belt

Not sure which one you have, need complete model number. You can go, click on the parts link, enter you model number, click on the powerehead link. A parts list will come up along with a picture breakdown of it.
Alot of them the part covering the light is just snapped into place, push in on the side andback to release it. Remove the 2 screws, use a flatblade and stick in the slot on each side from the bottom and pry up to release it.
The other type, you tak out the 2 screws from the bottom, then on the back and each side are release tabs that you pry out to release.

My vacuum kenmore canister smells

My guess would be a slightly loose belt - tight enough to spin the roller on a hard floor, but loose enough to slip (then get hot and stink) when the roller is having to work against the pile of a carpet. Worth buying and fitting a new belt without pausing to investigate further, simply because they're so cheap and you'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway. A.
