I have a new Frigidaire 20.6 cu. ft. top freezer without icemaker. When it turns on or goes in its cycle it makes a knocking sound behind freezer compartment, then stops. is this normal? . P.C Richards salesman says its normal. Older fridges never made this sound. Salesman says its because its "high efficiency.
This is normal. It is the sound of the refrigerant flowing through the coil on start up. This will cause the knocking sound you are hearing. It should only last for about 7-10 seconds. You might also hear a cracking noise due to the insulation expanding and contracting due to fluctuating temperature. Refer back to your owners manual under normal operation sounds. Hope this helps.

I've got A Roper RT185DKXKQ00 which cools great but when it cycles on you can hear what sounds like either the fan or compressor laboring. It eventually stops making this sound but the whole time it happening you can hear static coming through the TV and Stereo speakers, touch lighting we have flickers, and I lose internet access for a few minutes. It does this regardless of temperature or time of day. Any suggestions?
