Maxtor personal Storage 3200 Power Supply [K01PWR3200]

I bought a Maxtor 3200, and realized that I'm missing part of the pwoer supply. You can't replace it through Seagate/Maxtor any longer. The problem is -- they do NOT put the polarity of the plug on the external hard drive unit. There are stores that carry the 12V 2A power supplies -- but they need the correct polarity.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CORRECT POLARITY for the power adapter plug? Thanks :-)

Go to this website to see a graphic of the underside of the power supplies.

The power supply for the PS 3200 has a positive center.

I own the exact same drive. i'm looking for a spare power supply, came across this website, and saw your problem. the power supply is 12 volts dc at 2 amps. the connector that gets plugged into the hard drive: center pin is power (positive) and outer "shield" is ground (negative). hope this helps.

The part number for the adapter is K01PWR3200 but I was unable to find the voltage for it. You might like to try calling Maxtor\Seagate and asking them, as I doubt that's information they wouldn't be able to find. Also, did you try looking on the drive? A lot of the time it says it right on it. Also, I found a link where you can purchase the adapter (note: I have no association to that website):

Using a Maxtor OneTouch III with a missing power  supply.

I took a chance, and it's working fine with a 2 AMP with a positive tip.

Good luck!

I have a Maxtor personal Storage 3200 external Hard drive. The green light was on but my computer wasnt recognizing it anymore. I took in to a local office depot. They were able to get it to show up on...

Try the manufacturer's web-site: http://www.MAXTOR.com and see if their E-commerce site offers that part-number.
Or, given the part-number on the power-supply, do a search on eBay -- you'll probably find third-party "compatible" power-supplies.

Looking for power supply maxtor 3200

You can use any 12 volt power supply for these external drives from any electronics store but you need to make sure they are a 2 amp rating anything under that will burn out your power supply.
You will need to make sure the centre is the + if the supply comes with a selection of plugs.

Hope this helps

Need to switch power supply from 120v to 220v

If you have the orginal power supply you can go to radio shack and buy a converter to acess it or they can find a converter that runs off 110 voltage so yuo will still be able to chagre and use the device, about $20.00

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Maxtor 3200 personal storage will not load on my computer or any computer tried 2 other laptops - it was working but had to turn off desktop computer due to storm & then when computer was turned back...

Did you unplug the power supply for the computer and external drive seperately or simply turn off the computer? If the lights do not com on as expected for the Maxtor drive then the power supply for the drive may have been damaged. If the do it may just be an untimely failure in the drive. Did you shutdown the computer via windows or just "pull the plug" when it started storming? Fill me in on these details and I will help you narrow down the source of the problem. Chris

Maxtor 3200 usb hard drive with windows vista home premium

Hey guys I had the same problem... All the drivers for the device are inside the harddrive. Maxtor doesn't have any because you don't need any. What they've neglected to let any of us know is the power supply provided with the unit isn't powerful enough to run it. Replace the original power supply with another one and this will solve the problem. I replaced mine with an old laptops power supply, the fit was alittle tight but believe me it works.

Maxtor 3200 not working

Check for error code 10 in the Windows device manager. You likely have a power supply problem.
