Laptop was working fine. Yesterday, it shuts down and now won't start. It would go to the black screen where the ''Microsoft Corporation'' was at the bottom with the sliding green line. Would not go past that. Now it goes to the Windows Error Recovery and asks to start normal, in safe mode. etc. etc. Then goes to Windows Boot Manager and says: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart (didn't come with one) 2. Choose your language settings, then click next 3. Click ''Repair your computer'' File: Windowssystem32configsystem Status: 0xc00000e9 Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. HELP! I have tried everything. Can't I fix the registry with regedit in command prompt? If so, what do I type. Desperate! Thanks!

Try this first, on the recovery CD there is an option repair just right before you press the F8(before you perform format) there is a selection that says press F8 to continue or R to repair, if you ss R it will Brin you to a command promt type "fixboot" and hit enter then type "fixmbr" the hit enter again type exit and see if your pc boot normally

If you have any windows xp bootable cd use that to fix the problem by running the command chkdsk /r/f or you can try with this just restart the system in safe mode with command prompt and type the command like c:\windows>chkdsk
And
c:\windows>chkdsk /r/f

Toshiba satellite L750-iq6 won't shut down or sleep?!?

That is a software issue with the OS. Was it always like this? If not, try a system restore to some time in the past when you know the unit was working fine.

Hello,

You should take it to a qualified pc repair shop. It is possible that the MBR (master boot record) is corrupt and needs to be re-written. There are software tools that can do this. If this is beyond your comfort level, then better to take it to a shop. Your data should be fine.

Hope this helps!

not to sure how that can be fix for its very important to have the updates done for it updates the system and it is required to let the process finish. Take your computer to a shop and they will be able to help u but do not ask how much it would cost. :)

It could be software issues caused by a virus, try using a recovery disc that came with the laptop, if you have it. If the recovery process fails, then you are probably looking at a bad hard drive.

Screen went black, but still on...turned it off...now won't start up.

All Dell laptops have a similar design flaw (in my opinion). The socket where the power cord plugs in to the laptop is probably loose. Use a toothpick or something to check it. Don't use anything metalic. If the socket moves easily then it has probably come loose from the motherboard. You may want to take the laptop to a computer repair shop to have the power socket soldered back to the motherboard. If you have the knowledge you can do this yourself but I don't suggest it. Laptops have a LOT of small parts. Hope this helps! Thanks!
