Question about Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Notebook

2 Answers

I have the A25-S3072 series. Is the CPU Fan (fan I can see from underneath the laptop) suppose to continuously run? It only runs intermitently and when I run my laptop from the portable battery it will cut off after about a 1/2 hour as if someone pulled the plug. However, it will not cut off when funning from a/c power. After trying to troubleshoot I took it to the Geek Squad yesterday and they told me that it was cutting off because the computer was getting too hot off the battery power because the fan was not continuously running and that I needed to replace the CPU fan.

Does this make sense?

Sincerely and Thank you,

Dave Long

Dave, If you mean that the laptop cuts out because it gets too hot.
Yes, I do agree with them. The fan on a laptop is a VERY important part of a laptop. Because of it the small size the temperature inside gets very high. The fan will run when the temperature reaches a certain degree. If you get it replaced or do it yourself, remove the dust that accumulates inside.

When you say cut off are you meaning that the laptop is shutting down?

The fan is only running intermitently when on battery as the laptop is running in power saving mode
and the speed drops when not needed as well as the cpu voltage
therefore reducing the heat produced and the nedd for the fan to run.

Try using a program called cpu-z and it will show the speed of the cpu going up and down as needed. Also use speedfan to sjow you the cpu tempreture.

Hope this helps and puts your mind to rest ? :)

Cutting out windows

When the CPUoverheats it goes into thermal shutdown and will not boot up again until theCPU has cooled down.
The heat sink may be clogged with dust, which causes the CPU to overheat byreducing air circulation through the heat sink.If you are notusing your laptop on a flat surface, it may be obstructing the cooling vents onthe bottom of the laptop. Your laptop fanmay be faulty and not spinning freely, in this case replace the fan.
Check the fan and heat sink assembly and remove the dust, loosen the dust anduse a can of compressed air to clear away the dust.A laptop fanassisted cooling pad may solve your problem

I love my notebook but all of a sudden its shuts down because it continues to get hot underneath and its not the battery..I log on and it may last 15 mins maybe 45min at the most...what is going on? I

When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

My computer is not cooling (acer aspire 6530). After a point the power gets off (i think it's a security safety). Where can i order a new fan?

I doubt that you need a new fan, they are quite long lived, UNLESS you cannot hear the fan cutting in?
My guess would be that the heatsink and the cooling copper matrix have become clogged and will need the fan assembly removing and cleaned. To do this, the laptop may need taking apart, unless there is the large inspection plate underneath the laptop, in which case, the assembly is easy to get at.
If you do disturb the heatsink, make sure you apply fresh CPU grease on the chip before re-assembly

HP DV2910us -where to order cpu cooling fan for

Best place to look is ebay. Look it up as a DV2000, as far as I know all the dv2000 series use the same cpu cooling fan. Otherwise, if you have the laptop apart, use the serial number or m/n on the part to look it up on ebay. I do this daily at my computer repair store and have lots of luck with hp laptop fans.

What happens if one powers on a laptop compaq evo n110 series

it's likely the fan has failed. it should immediately shut down and even if it doesn't... if the fan is not spinning you need to put a new fan in first. it is easier to replace a fan then a cpu and heat will basically kill it.

Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Cooling system not working

Yes Its possible to fix. However your conclusion about fan might not be totally correct. as there might be different reason as Fan works CPU controlled. It should be diagnosed by hands on technician. If part requires the replace it should be done by someone who is skilled. You may take to Toshiba Authorized Centre or Independent Computer Technician. You can go to and locate the nearest service center.

Good Luck
