DVD BURNER TYPE LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L recognises CD-R discs, but not DVD+RW or DVD+R DL discs.

  • antispam Sep 06, 2008

same problem, DVD drive does an initial scan/seek when the DVD is inserted, then just stops with no error message and no output. I cannot see any files on the drive and programs like Sonic and Windows Media Player say there is no disk found.

    Any solutions?

    Thanks

The problem is in the drive as with any software DVD discs are not recognized at all, only CDs, even after reflashing to firmware version 1.02.

Please help, removing IDE channels did not help either.

My Philips DVD8421 burner will not recognize a blank DRD-R disc.

Ok, the reason is quite simple. The Philips DVD8421 does not recognise the DVD-R format. Not all DVD/CD burners read all discs. It does recognise DVD+R though. So all you need to do is use these discs instead. This should solve your problem.

Hope that helps.

Hi All,

I've had the "can't read disc problem" and "noise" when the
disc is turning. It's not the lens. The rubber pad/ring that the
CD/DVD sits on gets "dirty" and doesn't grab the disc well enough
and the disc slips. It's especially a problem when recording, because
it can ruin the discs, and make then unusable.

I took mine apart and cleaned the rubber ring and that solves the problem.
(for a while anyway) I think the rubber pad has hardened and lost it's grip,
so I have to clean it more and more often now.

Cleaning
1) Unplug it (I take all the cables off)
2) Take the top cover off (5 philips head screws) Don't touch any of the electronics.
3) Remove the blk plastic DVD reader cover CAREFULLY (6 philips head screws)
Don't move any of the parts on the cover or it's really hard to put back together.
4) Gently wipe off the rubber ring with a damp lint free cloth
5) Put the blk cover back on, plug it in, and test it with a disc take make it sure works.
6) Put the metal cover on and you're done.

I used to work as an electrical engineer so I feel comfortable taking this kind of stuff
apart. If you don't, you can buy a new one or have someone else clean it.

Goodluck
