Question about Canon i860 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

I860 won't print properly

I have a Canon i860 that's several years old and has probably printed somewhere around 1500 - 2500 pages and colour prints. It began printing bands in the colours and will print text ok but not images unless I move the print setting to HIGH. I've removed the printhead and cleaned them several times in WINDEX but no real improvement. Talked to Canon service who suggest using a NEW PRINTHEAD but I'm concerned whether this is the solution to the problem. I love using this printer and would gladly buy either a new head or a used one from Ebay etc if I knew this would solve the problem. I can't run an automatic print head alignment anymore - get error msgs so must run in manual mode. Any suggestions

Re: i860 won't print properly

Buying a new printhead is a mighty good suggestion, it seems you have pretty well used up the maximum service life of your printhead, if i'm not mistaken. Try to reinstall your printer along with its software. Go to settings>control panel > remove hardware> then, reboot. After, rebooting, re-install your printer software and drivers.

My Canon I860 has stopped printing any of the colors. When printing a color picture, the printing takes an extra long time and then only the black colors are printed.

To solve the problem follow the mentioned stages bellow:
1.Click start, then printer and fax icon maintenance tab, then clic ink cartridge setting
3. Select auto dedection or Black and colour cartridge.
Then cloge all.
Thank you.

Colors are off. Browns print green or purple. I

BROWN is made by mixing two of the three "primary" colours.
So, if the printer is out of RED ink, you'll get the "other" primary colour.

Print a "test" page, and verify that part of that page is RED.

Run a printer "cleaning" cycle, and consider replacing the RED cartridge.

Does not print properly-even after installing brand new cartridge

most likely your ink nozzles have clogged up.
try several cleanings, if it still does not work, you probably have to get the printhead replaced.

Print Head Alignment test produces only a blank page.

Yes head probably clogged. You can try cleaning head multiple times, I think this is a pigment ink machine, so get only these carts for it

After deep cleaning the print heads, it will only print one page

This sounds like the print head alignment is not stabilized and may indicate you need a new print head ($$$). Try looking in the Service Manual.

One color

yep, print head needs proper clean, here it is.
OK, Canon will hate me for posting this.

1. Remove ink cartridges
2. Remove print head
3. go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head, be careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

Won't print on normal paper

Refer to my previous post about manual under head cleaning and follow the routine through. This will most likely get you going as sounds like classic blocked nozzles.
