If yours is the same as the model 04890 that I looked up on the net, you will unscrew the center nut of the light fixture being carefull to not let the fixture drop to the floor. Once you have the center piece off you will be able to unscrew the bulbs and install new ones. Be carefull and be sure power is off before you do this.

Finally, we got it. As some of these solutions suggest, the trick is to hold the metal rim while turning the glass globe to the left. It took two of us, one holding the rim and the other turning, but voila, there it is.

Re: How to Change light bulb (yes, really...)

I just helped a friend with this problem last night. There is no center nut to unscrew on these whole glass globe models. You have to push up slightly on the glass with a small bit pressure while you hold the metal housing directly above that the glass is attached.

Then you turn the glass globe approximately 120 degrees counter clockwise as you are looking up at the fan from below it. There are three metal impressions located at 120 degree increments that the globe uses to hold it in place and lock-in. Too much pressure and that thin glass will shatter. We put some white grease on the globe rim before reinstalling it to help it not be so hard to twist off next time.

I just broke my glass globe to bits trying to get it off. It is supposed to twist off but after an hour of screwing with it, it broke into several large shards of falling glass. Be careful!

I have this fan and just changed the light bulb. There are no screws or nuts to unscrew. You turn the light fixture itself, counter clockwise. I found that mine stuck a bit and recommend holding the nickel folds holding the glass fixture and not the glass itself. The whole bottom piece should turn and come off.

It twists off counterclock wise. If that doesn't work, try spraying some WD-40 around the glass. Wipe off excess oil.

You called customer care about a Hampton Bay & they sent you Minka Aire??? Hampton Bay is a store brand for Home Depot. If The fan came with a remote, you probably need the one for your fan.

We have a hampton bay ceiling fan model 54cvt. We cant figure out how to change the light bulb or change the direction of the blades. We dont have a manual for the fan.

This fan is also known as the Hampton Bay Covington 54 Ceiling Fan. You need to turn the globe anti clockwise until it comes out. The full instruction manual can be found here.
If you have another fan model other than the Hampton Bay 54CVT then try here

Light kit has light bulb size that I cannot find bulbs for

Melanie, you must have gotten a bad batch of bulbs. I have installed over 100 Hampton Bay ceiling fans and I have dropped them from up the ladder and have them bounce across the floor with no damage. I think they must have allowed a substandard batch to go out.

Home Depot is where I buy my replacement bulbs. Hampton Bay make fans exclusively for HD.

You can easily change lighting bases, as the wiring is the same for all Hampton Bay. You may even appeal to Hampton Bay on the internet and they might send you the kits. But I don't think you'd have success in a store.

If you try replacing them with bulbs from another Home Depot you may find them much hardier. I wish you the best of luck, and if you need additional help please write back.

Bulbs burning out in Hampton Bay ceiling fan

I would suggest getting an electrician to check the current running through the wiring. I had installed a similar fan in my grandmother's house a couple of years ago and had the same problem. After a couple of months of constantly changing bulbs, I brought in an electrician to check the current and found that there was a short in the wire which kept causing just enough of a current surge to blow the bulbs.

No middle speed.

Replacing the pull switch (reostat) should have solved your problem. Try going to the internet at and in the Google search box enter "Hampton Bay Fans homepage". If any of these suggestions have been helpfull, please rate my solution. Thanks D. Lange
