As soon as I plug in my Canon Powershot A720 to my laptop, the camera freezes and becomes unresponsive. I can't download pictures. It won't scroll through pictures, the menu won't come up. I know it's not the usb cord as the computer reads the camera when I go into my computer. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks, daniellarousso

i know it's not the answer you were looking for but i agree with the poster above. invest in a $10 all in one card reader and then forget about connecting your camera to your computer directly.
benefits of the card reader is they can be used for almost any type of card (memory stick, sd, compact flash, etc) so that any time you have friends or family over and want to download pics from their camera, you can.
i recommend the kingston FCR HS219.
