First thing to do is try the easy fix...
Right Click on Taskbar > Properties > Notification Area tab > under system icons, check Volume

The laptop have no sound at all and when ever I try windows media player i get the error "Windows media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device" In my device manager, there is no device with the yellow question mark i.e all the devices are installed and o.k. The device for sound in the laptop are; Audio Codecs and Legacy audio drivers and they are all working properly
