Re: Can't power up an IBM T-23

Are you getting any life at all? i.e are the power indicators coming on, are you getting any booting messages on the screen?

are you getting the windows logo screens?

I'm trying to ascertain whether this is a hardware or a software issue.

ThinkPad T30 Setup Guide.

(How to;
1) Set up your computer
2) Turn on the system
3) Use the TrackPoint pointing device
4) Volume button controls
5) Access ThinkPad

Click on the first file listed -
t30engsq 62p9239.pdf.............English - Setup Guide for ThinkPad T30

This is a PDF file. Takes a few seconds after you click on the file name to see the first page. Also takes additional time to fully download. Suggest letting the file fully download before looking through it, or saving a copy.

If you are aware of the following please disregard;

1) The box to the right of the blue Down Arrow is the page number box.
If you know the page number you wish to go to, you can;
A) Put your mouse cursor in the box, Left-click once
B) Type the page number
C) Press the Enter key

Much faster than using the Down Arrow.

The + sign in the top header is the Zoom In icon.
The - sign is the Zoom Out icon.
Most of the time the file will be downloaded in a too large view for readily viewing.

To save a copy:
You can save a copy to a CD disk.
This way you can delete it from your computer, and save Harddrive space, and have the file anytime you wish.

Left-click on the Floppy Disk icon.
The Floppy Disk icon is in the top header, and is the second icon from the left.
If you hover your mouse cursor over the Floppy Disk icon, it will briefly reveal,
"Click to save this file to your computer or another location"

After you click on the Floppy Disk icon a small window will come up.
Save a copy...
At the top of the Save a copy window you will see a box with - Save in: to the left.
In the box is stated where the file will download to.

I would put the file in My Documents.
Click on the blue Down Arrow to the right of the box, then click on My Documents in the list.

Down at the bottom of the Save a copy window is the File name: box.
You will see - t30ensq_62p9239.pdf in the box.
You can add to this file name to make it easier for you to find.

Put your mouse cursor in the box right after the f in .pdf
Left-click twice.
Type ThinkPad T30 Setup Guide.

Now go to the bottom of the Save a copy window, and click on Save.

To find, and open the file:
Click on Start> Double-click on My Documents > Click on the file name

I installed win XP over the old win XP operating system , when completed, everything worked except the (ACCESS IBM) and volume control BUTTONS.pressing them gets no responce at all

You need to install the drivers for those. Xp will try to use the existing driver if it can or use drivers that it comes with. Certain functions such as hot button or other hardware specific stuff will need the driver from the manufactuers web site.

This is the download and support page for the G40.
You should save that off in case you need something else. You may find that some things will not work or work as well if you don;t use the IBM/Lenovo driver versions. I think what you need are the hotbutton drivers and mayb keyboard customizer. Those are in the system utilities section. Download, save to desktop or other place and run them to install.

Dark screen can't see the pages computer starts up but screen does not light up all other functions are working as far as I can tell

Then the problem is clearly with the back light. Try throwing up light on the screen if you see the desktop and the icons...very light...then the back light has gone gaulty and needs to be replaced.

Best bet would be to contact the manufacturer. If your system is not in warranty then anywhere would be fine.

Display Screen Went Dark...

This would seem like the power supply is broken and the computer is working off the battery or the setting need to be changed in power management. Whenever you disconnect the power supply and work form the battery, as power saving mode, windows will dim the back light to the display. First check if the power supply is charging the battery and then check your settings in the following: Start menu -  Programs - IBM - Battery MaxiMiser Wizard. Follow the steps until you get to the LDC display level. You may need to increase that.

No visual display

It sounds like your graphics card is shot. If your graphics card is a dedicated graphics card, you might be able to get it fixed/replaced; if it is embedded, then you are probably going to have to buy a whole new display screen.

Theres no display on screen

by shutting the screen you have activated power saving followed by hibernation.when you lift screen and press power a screen appears telling you what programs are currently running and your icon to removing battery you have (computer term) illegally shut down, possibly with programs running, which incidently is a good way to loose sys32. which would require a repair or install.
Not ur case as of yet.restart ur pc and press f 8 about 4 seconds later .black screen with options appear ,navigate to start windows with last good will restart with last good settings .
if you choose to go asleep whilst a program is running you can configure windows not to go into power save mode or hibernation, turn off hd,turn off pc etc .
if you right click mouse in any space on desktop, select properties, screensaver, can change settings there to suit.
