Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC20 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Battery Charge Light not working & can't display battery info

Got my camcorder out the other day in preparation for the wife using it and checked the batteries using the dspl/batt info button - worked fine.

Now I thought I'd switched it off properly but came to use it today and the main large FP70 battery was totally flat so I plugged in the mains supply to check a tape. After a while it started flicking back from play to camera mode.

Now when I plug in either the FP70 or the FP50 I can't get the battery info display or the charge light when i set the FP70 to charge,

I've confirmed the adapter is working by turning the camcorder on with only the adapter connected and it seems to be charging the FP70 as I've left it plugged in then turned the camcorder on and got a read out in the normal LCD display for remaining charge time for both the FP70 & FP50.

This sounds similar to a problem I had. I brought the camera in under warranty and the repair shop fixed it. They shop text is cryptic.
Problem: Camera light keeps flashing, not charge
Solution: Troubleshoot to intermittent switch block control, replace with new one, test OK.

It means the camera has detected that the battery is not genuine or not compatible. sony batteries has the data chip that provides the 'info' in infolithium.

check with the vendor who sold you the battery.

My battery is not holding charge

ensure the battery is well charged allover again
use the right charger and charge for the allocated duration

when you are not using the camera, remove battery from the panel

then if you charge and dont use your battery for a couple of days please charge again before using as it would have decharged to an extent to avoid disappointment.

if the above don't work, the battery might have gone bad and you may need to request for replacement form your vendor

Not charging?

Please plug the camera charger in AC Outlet and hook it to camera. Check camera power turn ON, works fine? if OK, switch it to Standby / Off mode. Attach battery and check any charging light lit? If yes, leave the camera on charging position for 4-5 hours until its charge light flashs or turn Off. battery is chaged now. Have fun :)

Battery Won't Charge on JVC GZ-MG275

The only suggestion is that it's a faulty battery. You said the camcorder is new, take the battery back, it's under waranty, and get a new one.

RCA prov712 battery will only last 5 minutes

Be sure to charge for AT LEAST 14 hours on the new battery, even if the charger light goes out - it's still trickle charging. It's normal for most camcorders to auto-shut off after 5 minutes, if it's not recording. But if your batt light comes on, the problem is probably with the battery.
