SATA drive I have a P4M800PRO-M and would like to use it with a single MAXTOR SATAII/300 basic SATA drive. I hooked the drive up it is detected by the BIOS but the WIN XP installation CD will not format the drive. I am trying to do a fresh install of XP on the drive. What BIOS settings are needed for the MB to use the drive. I've also installed the The force 150 jumper isin the default (installed) position. TIA

Re: SATA drive

First check to see if the pc is set to boot from the cd first. If that doesn't work, try and see if you can go to the command line. If you can, change the directory to your cd drive. For example: D:, then type cd d:, when you see the D:, then type setup.exe

The system is unable to detect my Maxtor sata drive

look in the board in what SATA port is the HD connected and the check in the bios if that sata port is enable by defaul, if that still don't solve the issue download the sata drivers for your board

if it still not solve the issue go to the Maxtor website and look for any drivers updates.

that should take care of the issue.

Epox motherboard and SATA disk

According to the hard drive manufacturer Maxtor, motherboard host controllers using the VIA and SIS chipsets VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420, VT6421L, SIS760, SIS964 found on the ECS 755-A2 manufactured in 2003, do not support SATA 3 Gbit/s drives. To address interoperability problems, the largest hard drive manufacturer, Seagate/Maxtor, has added a user-accessible jumper-switch known as the Force 150, to switch between 150 MB/s and 300 MB/s operation.[9] Users with a SATA 1.5 Gbit/s motherboard with one of the listed chipsets should either buy an ordinary SATA 1.5 Gbit/s hard disk, buy a SATA 3 Gbit/s hard disk with the user-accessible jumper, or buy a PCI or PCI-E card to add full SATA 3 Gbit/s capability and compatibility. Western Digital uses a jumper setting called "OPT1 Enabled" to force 150 MB/s data transfer speed. OPT1 is used by putting the jumper on pins 5 & 6.

Can't detect HD WD 500GB SataII 16MB cache

If you purchased a full retail hard drive the drive came with Data Life Guard tools. Boot to the Data Life Guard cd and follow the prompts to set up your new drive. This should by pass any bios limitations.

If your drive didn't come with the Tool cd you can download it from Western Digital's site.

I have a new 8ogb sataII Exelstor hardisk which i

Windows XP does -not- have native SATA support and therefore will not recognize a SATA drive without first installing 3rd party drivers.
To go around this problem without installing drivers check your BIOS. There might be something in there where the bios will emulate an IDE controller.

If not, you'll need a floppy and the sata drivers. A flash drive will also do if the motherboard bios supports legacy USB. To find the drivers, simply go to the motherboards manufacturers website.

PC won't boot if SATA drive connected, drive works fine if plugged afterward

Try Hirens Boot CD. It has a lot of programs on it to detect format etc.
I think your hard drive has a missing or corrupt MBR and it needs to be replaced.
When I have had a hard dive not recognized I hve used Super Fdisk to format and reset hard drive.
On the boot disk

System won't recognize SATA drive

Seagate shows you're did not come with a jumper.
Try removing the jumper. Check if bios see's the drive. Most motherboards that do not support SATAII will automatically reduce the drive/split the SATAII down to 150MB's. If you had or have another SATA & the bios saw or see's the SATA than it's not the motherboard's SATA controller. Take some time & go through Seagate's trouble shooter site.
If the bios did find another SATA other than the ST3750640AS-RK than it's possible the drive has an issue & may need to be exchanged.

Lets hope it's the drive & not the motherboard controller.

No Boot (system does post) - Hard drives not detected • Check jumper settings on all IDE devices • Verify that IDE controller is configured correctly in the BIOS • Check to make sure that the drive is connected to the correct controller • Make sure drives are configured correctly for RAID • Verify Onchip IDE configuration for ICH5 SATA operation is set correctly • Test drives with different IDE/SATA cables
