Cuisinart Grind & Brew Thermal Coffeemaker DGB-600

Grinder basket will not come out so that I can clean it!

Grinder Basket gets stuck in the machine. I have to use a spoon to pry the basket out. Have tried vegetable oil with some success but only for a short while.

I'm not sure they are working from a full deck. I have been able to shave some of the plastic shaft with a pocket knife. I suspect when the basket is stuck, there is an air pocket that creates suction on the basket. In any case since I shaved some of the material off of the shaft, the basket comes out a little easier. I will keep working it a little bit at a time until I am either able to get the basket out easily or break something.

    Thanks for the input.

I have the same problem. The grinder basket does not come out. My daugher-in-laws Grind & Brew has the same problem - Would love a solution since I love the unit - Can't use whole beans since I'm afraid the unit will get clogged -

Grinder is stuck. Does putting coffee maker in the freezer really work? I'm willing to try anything to get the grinder off so I can clean it.

I have the same problem and am trying to get the basket off as we speak. It was a gift for my husband and he spent the first part of his morning totally frustrated trying to get the grinder out.

Put the whole brewer in your refrigerator freezer for 2 hours. The coffee basket then will come off. Take the entire brewer unit to your shower and rinse it thoroughly. Now look at the basket and where it goes on the brewer. You will see a little spindle and 2 sets of helical gears. Spread white lithium lube on the spindle and the gears. It won't get in your coffee because it's nowhere near the water flow. This should solve the stuck basket problem.

Someone else posted a fix of cleaning with vinegar and water and then putting ice in the grind part. I tried it and it worked like a charm. I can't find it now, the reference, but it is in here. My two cents is that I sprayed the thing with water and vinegar mix and let sit 10 mins. Worked like a charm. Something about the oils building up. Good luck!

I have the same problem and called customer service. Since my machine is still under warranty, cuisinart said that it would have to be replaced. I have a new machine coming -- the 650 model. I am responsible for shipping charges, but I figure that the problem will eventually get worse and this is better than having to buy a new machine.

Take the mechanical engineers that designed the thing, and deprive them of
all coffee, beer, and soda until they design one that does not have this flaw.

Then take the tech writers and have them add a trouble shooting section to their manual that lists all these recommendations.

Seriously, we can as consumers, demand the designers and manufacturers of these products do a better job, or we can buy something else!

I have had the same problem on both the original and warranty replacement unit. After a year of fighting it I finally came up with a fix! I took everything out, got a small piece of fine sandpaper, held the plunger in with a pencil, turned on the grinder and sanded the round top portion of the grind basket driver. It takes a few times to get a good snug fit thats still easy to remove.

I have the same problem, started happening when the unit was about 20 months old. Cuisinart customer care says there is no solution, but recommends putting the entire unit in the freezer for a while, then removing, thawing, and trying again to remove the grinder basket. Incredible.

How do i clean my cuisinart grind and brew coffee maker? i can't find my instruction booklet and it needs to be cleaned. thanks!

From the manual I found online here.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE COMPLETELY CLEAN AND DRY ALL PARTS AFTER EVERY USE. Always turn coffeemaker OFF and remove the plug from the electrical outlet before cleaning. Open the reservoir lid*. Remove the grinder basket lid by using the recessed area on each side of the lid. Then remove Grinder Basket. Open Filter Basket Door. Remove Filter Basket Cover, Filter Basket and Filter Basket holder. The grinder basket, grinder basket lid, filter basket and filter basket cover can be washed in warm soapy water and rinsed thoroughly, or cleaned in the upper rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts after every use. Do not put any water in the unit once the grinder basket has been removed. Wipe the area under the grinder basket with a damp cloth. If water gets into the grinder motor, the motor may become damaged and may malfunction.
DECALCIFICATION Decalcification refers to removing the calcium deposits which form over time on the metal parts of the coffeemaker. For best performance from your coffeemaker, decalcify the base unit from time to time. The frequency depends upon the hardness of your tap water and how often you use the coffeemaker. To clean, fill the water reservoir to capacity with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water. Turn the coffeemaker on by pressing the ON button. One cycle should be sufficient to adequately clean the coffeemaker. When the cycle is completed and the five beeps sound, turn coffeemaker off. Repeat operation, this time using fresh cold water.

Coffee grinder on brew and grind won't work

Make sure the slot between the grind basket and filter basket is clean and free of grounds - then inspect the area near the grinder motor - use the brush that came supplied with the Cuisinart to clean that area out. Once thoroughly cleaned, try one more time to Grind. Let me know if it works.

I can not get the coffee grind to come off. How do i get it off so i can clean.

It should just pull off, but the DGB-600 has a tendency to get the stuck basket syndrome you are describing. Try icing the grind basket down and try to remove again after 15 mins. Replacing the unit will not help in this case, b/c your replacement will eventually develop the same problem.

Make sure the filter basket is in the open position, and that the area that runs from the grind basket to the filter basket is free from grinds and mositure.

Vinegar instead of WD40 - I am pretty sure a good portion of the DGB-600's have this problem, but that is hearsay.

I suffered with a stuck grider unti for a long time and just solved the problem..... Remove the filter basket and through the front door look up twords the back left. You can see where the grinder unit sits. There is a slot area where you can stick a screw driver under the grinder unit and pry it up. Do this in a jiggling motion and make sure you are well under the grinding unit, doing so on the edge of the grinder unit underneath will not give you enough suface to work with, in fact you will just bend or crack the edge. Looking in from low on the front (kneeling on floor with unit on counter, worked for me) will let you locate where the screw driver or smal pry tool needs to go. Mine was stuck for a very long time and No amount of pulling or prying from the top would work, I made it pop out in a matter of seconds using this technique from the bottom! Good luck, I'm going to finish my cup of coffee now! :-) Steve
