CD does not eject and I have tried the paperclip method which does not work for me. Turned the drive upside down and with a lot of trying got the CD to eject. Obviously, can't do this all the time! Any solution?

This "paper-clip" thing is not going to work on most new laptops. My DELL STUDIO XPS does NOT have a tray. The computer just sucks the DVD in. AND there is no pin-hole.

While Burning a DVD, it gave an error and "conked out". Worst is the DVD is stuck in there and I have switched the computer back on about a million times. But it does not solve the problem. I have even removed the battery and reinstalled it. And it takes like 10 minutes for the DELL to boot-up because all the resources are being hogged by the DVD drive, and I can\'t do anything else on it....

Hi, The cd disc is not in his place inside the multichanger, you must open the appliance and try to take out the cd without forcing, otherwise you wil brake the mechanical system,
after this the system will work well.

The disk in my dell studio 1737 will not eject. Pressig the eject button creates the sound of it ejecting but no disc is ejected. Is there a way to manually force the ejection of a disk?

If you look at the front of the CD drawer, you should see a tiny hole. That hole is to allow the removal of a disk that will not eject.
Find yourself a paper clip and straighten it out except for the shortest bend and form it into the shape of a letter L.
With the rest of the clip looking nice and straight push it into the hole gently and that wil actuate the mechanism that will release the disk.
Hope that helps.

Disc drive wont open. i pressed the eject button on my keyboard but it makes a clunk sounds but wont open.

This wil show you how to take it apart if that becomes necessary. But try this instead. First hold the eject button down for 5 seconds. I that fails look for a tiny hole near the disc slot. Use a straightened paper clip and push it in the hole firmly. This should eject the disc. Another option is to use firmware to eject the disc. Follow these directions: To eject a disc with Open Firmware commands, follow these steps:
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and (commandkeysymbol.gif) icons on it.
  3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
  4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
  5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
  6. Type: mac-boot
  7. Press Return.
  8. Your computer should now start up normally.
