Trutech 1GB MP3 player Model SMP-1GBL

Hi all! My boyfriend just got the player in the subject line. It worked for a day or two and now it says "Flash Error. Backup files and reformat device". It didn't come with any device drivers, works via flash drive, and of course the manual was lost in the Christmas madness! Any help would be appreciated.

I am having a similar issue with my mp3 player. When I plug it in to the port, in the front of my computer, it reads the program, then it ignores the drive, telling me that there is a corruption while my computer is reading the device. I do not have a receipt with this product anymore, so how should I return this product, or find a way to correct this issue?

I have had a similiar problem. When I went and turned it on, the thing kept shutting off. Went to plug into computer and it wouldn't recognize. Here I found the problem. I was deleting some files from the player and I deleted the voice file. Which is what the player runs on. Do not ever delete the voice file... What I did was plug the unit into my computer. Clicked on the drive that it used to run off of. It then said I needed to format device. Went and did the format. Unfortunately it erases all the songs, so I had to redownload onto player, but now it is working properly and doesn't shut off and my computer recognizes drive.

I have the same player and had the same problem. First make sure that you back up your files. Open up My Computer, right click on the device, and click onto Format. It will format the player, but will clear all your music, that's why you need your files backed up. It did fix the problem and my player now works fine. I hope it resolves your problems.

Change usb cable - It seems that there was enough money put into the unit - the usb cable supplied with unit did not work - As soon as good cable on success - Happy hunting - lucianonote

Did you read my last post, get your self a good usb data cable.

Problems?#@!*&%, at the command prompt ( you know, dos ) type, where X: is your drive letter.
    chkdsk x: /f /r

It will take a few minutes depending on your machine.

Then back to explorer or my computer. With the mouse, right button, go to properties on the bottom. click on tools. Check the drive again. High light the Automatically... and the Scan... box.

When the scan finishes, Defrag the drive.

It probably is better to erase all files. Then copy your good files at one time.

That player is a serious POS. Mine got extremely hot and partially melted. Yours may be a fire hazard too. Don't leave the batteries in it. You might consider returning it. Trutech is a seriously crappy brand of electronics. Google "Why you should NOT buy Target's Trutech brand."

One of the files uploaded is corrupted you have to remove all files manually. Go to my computer the mp3 player and open the internal memory and erase everything. Then start from scratch you might have to plug it in without a battery in it to reset it.

Did the company provide a website with their documentation?- I cannot find their website with a Yahoo first search, and that is a bad sign - it means they are small, and their device is probably a custom-build- going to be hard to support.

Start simple - try plugging it into a different usb port on your computer.

A flash error is usually caused because Windows consider this device a msc/msd device, and it is set for MTP mode - see if there is a menu setting that will let you manually change it to an msc device. If there is no option, try uninstalling the mtp device in device manager.

If there was a manual or website provided for this device, it would help the community if you provide the link - we have no documentation for this device.

MP3 Player

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.

WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.

Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
