Query on videos taken on camera

Hello - wondering if someone can help me with my query. when i take a video on my camera, it saves two files - an AVI file and a THM file. i would like to know what the THM file is. ie.if I transfer the file to another location, do I need to retain this THM file? I've been deleting them out but not sure if that is the right thing to do. Looking for some advice.

Thanks, Annette

Re: Query on videos taken on camera

It's not necessary. It's the thumbnail picture file (those tiny mini pictures that let you preview what each file is when perusing a folder). If the file is missing, and you select "view thumbnails" in your folder menu, your computer will automatically recreate them if needed.

Go to

This will help you in playing the MVI file in Windows media player. Moreover the codec I provided above will also help you in playing all kinds of DVD movie in Windows Media Player.

How to convert MVI to AVI file for edit in Pinnacle Studio?

Some Canon digital still cameras (Powershot A75, A63, S410 etc), are capable of shooting a limited amount of video, since there is no tape, it is saved as an MVI file format. However, the MVI file format is not compatible with other programs. Even windows media player refuse to play MVI file. Besides, editing software like Pinnacle Studio and Windows movie maker do not work with the format. Because of this, the files need to be converted to a format that is more widely used, such as AVI so that these videos shot with still camera can be played and edited as easily as other common videos. This guide is to tell how to do that.
Software you'll Need: Pavtube Video Converter

Step 1. Download Pavtube Video Converter, and follow the prompts to install the program. Click "Finish" when the installation is complete, and Pavtube Video Converter will launch automatically.

Step 2. Click “Add” to load MVI files or directly drag the files into file list. By default, the files are selected. If you would like to join all the selected files together, check the box of Merge into one. You could view the files in preview window, simply highlight the file and click play button.

Step 3. Click “Format” bar to determine output format. Follow Common Video-> AVI Video (*.avi)/ DivX AVI(*.avi). Click “Settings” if you’d like to customize advanced audio and video parameters like Video Codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sampling rate, bit rate, channels. Do not forget to click “OK” to confirm your settings. Then type in a desired output location in the "Output" box.
Step 4. Click "Convert” to start converting MVI files to AVI. You could set auto shutdown in progress window or leave it there and come back later. After conversion you could edit the converted video in Pinnacle Studio, and make a film out of it or burn it onto DVD.

I have casio exilim ex-z35. I was taking a video with it, but I hit my hand on a door and the battery cover opened, thus turning the camera off while it was recording. Is the video on my cameras card in...

When you are recording the file is being saved temporarily by default, when you stop recording, the file is saved.
If the bytes are o, the .avi file is unavailable.

I had a virus on my camera sd card i got rid of the virus but now my programs on my sd card will not work help please i have pictures and videos i want to keep

Hi armyof11998 ,

A virus usually does not affect the images or videos that you have on your SD card , all you need to do is follow the below steps to save your images and videos.

Connect your camera to your desktop or laptop with the cable provided along with your camera.

Make sure you connect the camera in mass mode , or if you connect it in software mode , the software which is supplied along with the camera ,it's find till the time you are able to find out your images and videos perfectly.

Mass mode is always good and recommended as it would help you find out images and videos better.

Now if you connect your camera in mass mode you would have a removable drive icon coming up in my computer which you need to open , and then you have to search for image files and videos , inside that folder.

When you open up the icon from my computer , make sure you select the search for files option and mention the extensions for the images as well as video files usually *.jpeg and *.avi or *.mpg.

Then select the search option and you would find that all your image and video files show up , so all you need to do is select all of them and copy them to your hard disk , via edit menu -- Copy and then in the destination folder edit menu-- Paste.

This is how you would be able to save your valuable images and videos.

Hope this helps , do get back to me in case you have any queries. ..:)

Your feed back would be appreciated.

I record video on my sx110. It creates a .jpg file. I upload the file to my macbook, but it seems to be a single picture. I want to upload the entire video and then convert it to a format that can be...

jpg and jpeg are both "picture only" file formats. it might have put it in another folder on the camera. the file will be either .mpg , .mpeg, or .avi most digital cameras save as .avi witch is perfect for uploading online! I would check every folder that is on the camera. there's gotta be an AVI file in there somewhere! Good luck hope this helped!

Transferring PC videos TO a Sony Cybershot?

It probably won't work but here is something to try: Make a short video clip with the camera. Then look at the memory stick with the computer to find out the name of the video and what folder it is in. If the camera makes .avi videos, you will have to convert your home videos to the .avi format. Then rename the video to a name similar to the one the camera made. i.e. If the camera named its video Vid00023.avi, then you should rename you home video to something like Vid00034.avi. Then put your video in the exact same folder where the camera put its video. That will give it a chance to be recognized by the camera. But I doubt it will play in the camera.
