The laptop that you have come with 64 MB SDRAM and its expandable up to 256MB.

Also you may try to tune up the unit by adjusting the operating system's settings. Like set the computer best performance instead of best appearance. You can reduce the quantity of startup programs by using MSCONFIG utility. Even you can speed up more by using maintenance tools like Disk Clean up, Disk defragmenter. Also you can turn the System Restore option off. It will definitely add on to performance but system restore option will not work.

Good Luck

Hi i need instructions on how to install a memory card in an old sony vaio pcg-f190 are ther any downloadable ? thanks

Hi astraspirit2. The Sony Vaio PCG-F190 uses 66MHz type memory and usually ships from Sony with 32/64MB of RAM. The Vaio PCG-F190 supports up to 192MB of RAM.
Most laptops have the memory compartment (at least the expansion socket or both) at the bottom. Flip the computer and you will see a little compartment (sometimes it even has a little chip logo). You will need a phillips #0 or #1 screwdriver. It's really simple, you insert the memory in the socket at an angle and then push it towards the laptop. I hope this helps.

These are nice solid laptops, filled with memory and large HDD plus they have blueray. A good price for these can be 350 bucks used. Below is an item number for one that is for sale on ebay. Check it out as well as the specs....who knows, you want to bid on it. It is not mine, I just saw it on ebay.

Slow performance

System resources at 75% on idle only gives you 25% to work your notebook. Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Laptop 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM should be plenty to run most OS and programs. The OS, software and accessories attached to your laptop are utilizing 75% of your resources on startup. You may want to do some maintenance, check your processes on startup & carefully remove any not being used, check your networking usage, good antivirus & spyware cleaning, clean & defrag your hard drive, remove some of your files & programs, and upgrade your memory.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Sony Vaio Laptop PCG 9U1M

PCG-K415B is the correct model number the label is possibly the service tage or something.

Here are the specifications of your laptop
  • Intel Celeron D Processor 345 3.06GHz / 533MHz FSB
  • 512MB DDR SDRAM - Low cost double memory Offer - call for details
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • DVD Dual Layer Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs, DVD+, DVD- and large Dual Layer DVD
  • 15.4" XGA xblacklogo.jpg Widescreen TFT Screen
  • ATI Mobility Radeon 345M 64MB shared graphics
