Possible lens damage as the result of some kind of damage from either an impact, dirt or sand, or water damage. It can also be caused from something internal such as a loose cable or a defective component on the printed circuit. If you can get to the menus try to set all to the default, as when it came from the factory. Some cameras have a set to default setting. The following may work, but can cause more damage if followed through. As the camera is started, pull on the lens gently with pressure. If that does not work, do the same as it starts only push some on the lens as it starts. This operation may cause the lens to jump back on track, and it may not help anything. You can, as a last resort, sell on a site such as Ebay for parts, as is repair. There are those who are looking for used, broken cameras for parts.
